Duties and Responsibilities:


Essential Job Functions:
Makes field investigations regarding sight restrictions, speed and delay studies, parking problems and traffic control device requests; sets up counters at different intersections to determine the need for signals and other traffic equipment; performs turning movement counts at intersections; records accident reports; conducts special studies at intersections; may occasionally be asked to perform special parking surveys; conducts curve speed checks and radar speed checks; maintains contact with the public; makes drawings regarding complaints received; enters data into and retrieves data from personal computer;

Performs other duties as required.

Working Conditions:

Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather; is exposed to accidents due to traffic hazards.


Minimum Essential Qualifications:


Knowledge:
Some knowledge of geographic location of city streets.


Skills/Abilities:

Ability to make simple line drawings; ability to operate or learn to operate calculator and computer; ability to read maps; ability to work outside for extended periods of time; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, fellow employees and the public; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is needed for generating reports based on data collection.


Physical Requirements:
Essential: Constantly sees and hears; frequently stands, sits, bends and lifts objects weighing up to 30 lbs.


Education/Experience:

Graduation from high school or equivalent including courses in mathematics and computers, or sufficient background to acquire necessary experience rapidly; experience in the operation of personal computers desired.
