    Description
    The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing technical support to the Client Information Technology Network unit.

    The Lead Unified Communications (UC) Engineer is a subject matter expert in Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and video communications utilizing Cisco's portfolio of Unified Communications solutions with a background in medium to large infrastructure and design.


    This individual is expected to work alongside a team of VoIP and video specialists to ensure maximum performance, Quality of Service (QoS), and uptime of the UC environment.

    The incumbent provides leadership to other members of the UC team and can delegate and manage multiple projects at a time.

    This position reports to the Network/ Unified Communications Manager position and is considered an exempt position.


    Tasks:

    • Configures, troubleshoots and maintains Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unified Contact Center Express (UCCX), Cisco Unity Connection, WebEx, WebEx Teams, Expressway, and other Collaboration infrastructure.
    • Provides constructive leadership, guidance, and mentorship to other members of the Unified Communications (UC) Engineering team.
    • Provides expert technical support and recommendations for existing and expanding VoIP and collaboration networks, services, system upgrades, and equipment purchases.
    • Monitors and identifies capacity, quality, and performance issues for VoIP and video traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of telephony and collaboration systems and applications.
    • Collaborates with network engineers and/or administrators to ensure that VoIP and/or video traffic is marked and afforded proper treatment in QoS policies.
    • Maintain service provider relationships with a focus on troubleshooting VoIP and video-related issues and procurement of new products and services.
    • Creates and maintains documentation/diagrams on existing and future design and configuration.
    • Performs troubleshooting of system failures and identifies bottlenecks to ensure long-term efficiency of the voice and video network.
    • Monitors and evaluates VoIP and video network performance and identifies areas of improvement. Monitors and optimizes resources to establish higher operating efficiency and minimize incidents.
    • Collaborates and works closely with the Operations Center on issues related to open working tickets in the ticketing system queue. Provides technical direction to junior members of the team as well as Operations Center personnel.
    • Attends seminars, workshops, and meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
    • Ensures high level of service and accountability in the process of resolving requests, supporting daily operations, and meeting customer needs.
    • Attends and participates in staff meetings and other activities and events, as requested
    • Performs additional related duties, as required.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Advanced knowledge of business operations and customer support required.
    • Advanced knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, and methodologies.
    • Advanced knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications products and their troubleshooting and configuration.
    • Advanced knowledge of VoIP and video design and troubleshooting methodologies.
    • Strong knowledge of Local Area Networks (LAN)/ Wide Area Networks (WAN) networks, TCP/IP protocols, and network technologies.
    • Strong knowledge of IP networking and connectivity.
    • Demonstrates outstanding diagnostic, problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose unfamiliar issues.
    • Ability to analyze technical problems and provide logical and effective solutions.
    • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical information from resource manuals and peer guidance.
    • Demonstrate high level of motivation, initiative, and responsibility.
    • Demonstrate excellent time management skills.
