Description
ABOUT LMCC
Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) is a dynamic non-profit organization with a 50 year history of creating a fertile and nurturing environment for artists and arts groups, enlivening public spaces with free programs in the visual, performing, and new media arts, and providing leadership in cultural planning and advocacy.
Founded in 1973, LMCC serves artists and audiences through artist residencies, workshops, professional development, and performing arts, theater, and music events that take place throughout Manhattan and on Governors Island. We also provide grants for Manhattan-based artists, arts groups, and organizations to engage their local communities through artistic experiences and cultural programming. LMCC also operates the Arts Center at Governors Island (ACGI)--a 40,000 square foot arts center that is activated yearroun with public programs, exhibitions, and artist residencies.
We are a small but mighty team of devoted arts leaders and administrators, serving hundreds of artists and community members each year. Our entire operations, including the 40,000 square foot Arts Center at Governors Island, where our offices are located, are supported by a modest $6M budget.
