Summary

This position manages the daily kitchen and meal preparation needs at Willcutt Commons. The position requires regular inventorying of supplies and kitchen equipment. Oversees scheduling, training, and ongoing supervision of volunteer cooks, food service volunteers, and cleanup crew. Monitor tri-monthly menus suggested by the volunteer cooks. Meets with volunteer cooks to coordinate meals, including recipes, ingredients, and meal preparation. Purchases bulk food items at wholesale clubs and/or restaurant supply stores. Manages quality control practices of the department to ensure optimum
product quality and compliance with health, safety, and sanitation requirements and codes. Schedule Serv-Safe training for employees and volunteers. Monitors meal clean-up and partners to ensure all dishes and utensils are cleaned to Board of Health standards. Acts as a backup cook when the scheduled volunteer cook is not available. Keep kitchen organized, labeling shelves and racks to ensure equipment is returned to the correct location. Embraces a welcoming kitchen environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Supervision required:


Under the direction of the elder Affairs Director, frequently
partnering with the Services Coordinator, The
employee is expected to solve through experienced judgment most problems of detail or usual situations by adapting methods of interpreting instructions to resolve the particular problem
. The employee is responsible for
planning and prioritizing work in accordance with
Elder Affairs policies and standard operating procedures and practices.

Principal Responsibilities:

70% Kitchen Management

Inventory of all kitchen contents, including food items, equipment, dishes, and containers.

Stays informed of professional trends by reading electronic media and professional literature and attending professional meetings.

Responsible for meal preparation, including foreseeing needs for future meals.

Oversees kitching
to comply with
all national, state, and local food safety procedures.

Manage and monitor
commercial kitchen equipment to ensure all is in working order and organized.

If necessary, divide up food and label and organize it so supplies are available before each chef's cooking date
-
Monitor meal clean-up partners to ensure all dishes and utensils are cleaned to Board of Health standards
-
Cooking lunch for any amount between 5-100 guests

Based upon need, is
required
to work flexible hours.

25% Administrative

Coordinates monthly meal plan provided by volunteer cooks

Schedules volunteers for meals and helps plan ongoing meals

Keeps track of all employees and volunteers Serv Safe training and schedules accordingly

Contact person for vendors utilizing
the kitchen outside of normal dining operations.

duties as assigned.

Training, Skills, Knowledge, and/or Experience:


Experience working in a dining room/kitchen is required
. Commercial kitchen experience preferred.

Must have or, within six months, obtain current CPR and Serv Safe certificate.

Previous work experience managing or working with Volunteers is a plus.**

Must be able to work with various people and personalities
.
Must be able to go shopping and carry bundles of food. Position requires walking around the kitchen/pantry area and standing on feet—intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing.
There may also be occasional lifting of objects such as food bags and kitchen equipment (
up to 25bs.).

Salary:
Personnel Guidebook, PT6, $ $24.70 hourly
