    THIS IS A FULL-TIME POSITION THAT IS EXPECTED TO START IN AUGUST

    Bridge Academy of Southwest Michigan (BASWM) is a 9th -12th public school academy, offering a no-nonsense approach to graduation attainment, wrap around services and meaningful career exploration opportunities.     OUR DESIRED OUTCOMES:

    The Teacher is the expert in virtual related curriculum by coordinating, planning and executing instruction. Additionally, this position provides focused support to students and create a positive, flexible, and productive environment both in-person and in a virtual setting. The Teacher works in collaboration with the School Leader, Guidance Counselor and Student Success Team to ensure a high-quality experience for students and their parents/guardians.

    WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:

    • Guide and facilitate students through online curriculum; tutor students both in-person and virtually.
    • Have multiple conversations with students each week encouraging the students to stay on task. This would include two-way communication requirements.
    • When necessary, institute student academic behavior plans and help initiate academic interventions.
    • Facilitate training on all software and online programs for new students.
    • Work with Special Education partner to ensure 504 and IEP plans are being followed and proper supports are provided to students.
    • Understand the pupil accounting requirements for the Academy's program to ensure funding.
    • Work collaboratively with the Student Success Team, School Leader and Guidance Counselor to ensure student success, interventions, supports, and referrals are properly executed.
    • Under the direction of the Guidance Counselor, administer all state and local assessments, in compliance with testing guidelines. Examples are SAT, M-STEP and NWEA.
    • Ensure proper maintenance and entry of confidential records, test scores and student grades.
    • Demonstrate competency in assigned subject areas, the art of instruction, the use of multiple teaching strategies and technology.
    • Teach rules of conduct and proper etiquette.
    • Develop and deliver individual and group learning activities to support students, aligned to online curriculum.
    • Prepare and disseminate student progress reports to parents/guardians, with assistance from the Guidance Counselor.
    • Supervise students within the Academy setting and on Academy grounds.
    • Maintain a positive classroom environment for staff and students. Counsel students regarding academic and behavioral concerns as needed.
    • Promote ongoing communication with parents/guardians; establish and maintain home-Academy relationship.
    • Maintain solid computer skills and abilities in Microsoft, Excel, Power Point, and virtual meeting platforms (ex: Google Hangout, Zoom).
    • Other duties assigned by School Leader.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate for grades 6-12, endorsement in English and/or Math needed. Except as otherwise provided by law, the Academy shall use certificated teachers according to state board rule.
    • Teachers must be strong customer service leaders for students, families, and community members.
    • Understand the use of technology in both instructional and operational settings.
    • Ability to initiate and complete tasks with self-direction in a timely manner.
    • Comfort with onsite and virtual instruction.
    • Satisfactory performance ratings in delivery of instruction and classroom management.
    • Compassion regarding issues facing young people who have not completed high school and a deep respect for the ideas and intelligence of young adults.
    • Excellent English and grammar skills, proofreading skills, oral and written communications skills.
    • Skills in human relations, leadership, supervision, and motivational techniques.
    • Ability to establish the appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with students.
    • Criminal records clearance.
    • Unprofessional conduct clearance.

    PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

    • Successful previous experience in a virtual setting
    • Experience with highly barriered populations
