Servicing Representative/International Representative - UAW Region 9


UAW Region 9 covers western and central New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, excluding the counties of Franklin, Cumberland, Adams and York.


Servicing Representatives are highly experienced staff who work with Local Unions to build worker power and represent workers in collective bargaining, as well as participate in developing the Union's programs to organize and achieve social justice.

Staff in these positions also support new organizing drives and coalition-building with other unions and social justice organizations.

Servicing Representatives have a demonstrated record of leading organizing drives and contract campaigns to completion, and in particular identifying and developing diverse and effective leaders from within bargaining units.

They also have substantial experience working with Local Union administrative and financial frameworks and data systems.


The position will be based in the Region 9 area, services the Pennsylvania area and may require extensive travel, including overnight stays out of town, daily driving, evening and weekend work.

This position reports to the UAW Region 9 Director.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support democratic, workerled organizing, including membership engagement and mobilization.
  • Support broad, diverse leadership development (internal and external organizing)
  • Handle grievances, including arbitration preparation and presentation.
  • Bargain first and successor agreements.
  • Identify and develop political/community action plans.
  • Support development of strategic internal and external communications
  • Design and conduct trainings.
  • Build capacity for direct action and strike readiness.
  • Support local Union Financial Management and Reporting
  • Manage data to support internal and external organizing.
  • Help set priorities and strategic goals of Local Unions and Region
  • Assist other staff representatives in regional campaigns.
  • Increase existing membership engagement and mobilization through democratic, workerled programs.
  • Support National Departments and Officers upon request and coordinate internally with various departments as appropriate to support department objectives.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Must be a UAW member in continuous good standing of the International Union for a period of (1) year, pursuant to Article 14, section 3 of the UAW Constitution.
  • Four+ years experience in union organizing, including experience for a complete campaign as a lead organizer or equivalent. If fewer years of experience, applicant must demonstrate record of intensive experience(s) in that shorter period of time.
  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to support leaders of all backgrounds and experience levels in learning.
  • Commitment and understanding of building a participatory and equitable union culture.
  • Strong analytical and independent problemsolving skills
  • Support in leading participatory contract negotiations.
  • Strong familiarity with grievance handling and contract bargaining
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and demands
  • Creation of trainings that facilitate leadership development
  • Drafting and proofreading copy for internal and external dissemination
  • Strong familiarity with contract language and bargaining patterns within UAWrepresented industries
  • Computer skills necessary to support basic functions of Local Union and external organizing.
  • Thorough understanding of laws, standards related to public and private sector organizing and bargaining.
  • Aptitude for mentoring and fostering strong teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that support a respectful and positive work environment.
  • Ability to find solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and manage time and priorities is a necessity.
  • Proficiency with Google Workplace, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Forms) remote meeting software (Zoom, Teams, etc.) and related software
  • A valid driver's license and a working automobile

Salary and Benefits


This is a full time, in person position based in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and the area serviced by UAW Region 9.

The salary is set by a collective bargaining agreement. The UAW offers a starting salary of $111,760.47 for this position, including health, retirement, and other benefits. Relocation may be available.
