    The Medical Assistant Trainee's primary responsibility is to learn how to assist in the delivery of health care management for the practice.

    The training program is developed to allow the trainee to actively participate and support the primary clinical teams upon completion.

    The Medical Assistant Trainee is a professional member of the interdisciplinary team and consistently demonstrates and promotes the values of the organization.

    The Medical Assistant Trainee will work with and receive supervision from the practice manager, physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

    They will learn how to participate in data collection, planning and implementation of patient care as well as acting in a professional and courteous manner at all times.


    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Responsible for being an engaged student during classroom and didactic education


    Education to include:
    Basic anatomy and physiology
    Vocabulary of medical terminology and abbreviations
    Patient education and safety
    Other applicable training
    Actively learns and participates in learning of performing the following tasks as assigned:
    Vital signs
    Intake and output measurements
    EKGs
    Glucometry
    Phlebotomy
    Specimen collection
    Updating medication list
    Updating allergies in record
    Updating personal, family and social history; inquire about smoking status; obtains the reason for the visit.
    Documentation for all assigned responsibilities
    Responsible for actively participating during shadowing and precepting portion of training program to include learning the following tasks, activities, or responsibilities:
    Maintaining and/or improving quality improvement initiatives.
    Scheduling of appointments and tracking of referrals.
    Capturing patient demographic information.

    Conducting pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating the patient's medical record prior to the appointment with recent test results and correspondence and determines needed services by conferring with physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant.

    Completing pre-charting of all value based pieces up to 5 days prior to patient's appointment. Send messages to the Care Team, when warranted.
    Prepping patients for their examination and escorting them into the exam room.
    Reviews in-basket clinical pool messages and complete necessary information in order to clear the message.
    Maintains referral work queue and update notes in order to communicate with other departments.
    ~ Upon completion of training program, Medical Assistant Trainee participates in testing and validation of skills learned to move into a role within network.


    PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
    Requires sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours at time). Requires continual use of fingers for patient care, writing and computer entry. Routinely uses upper extremities; occasional requirement to lift up to 25 pounds. Occasionally push cart with supplies up to 30 pounds. Occasionally push wheelchair with patient weighing up to 325 pounds. Regularly requires ability to stoop, bend and reach above shoulder level. Requires ability to hear normal conversation and good general, near and peripheral vision.


    EDUCATION:
    High School Diploma


    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    Customer service experience is strongly preferred; BLS/


    CPR:
    current or within 60 days of hire; through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
