    The Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety consists of four programs: the Coal Regulatory program, the Minerals Regulatory program, the Inactive Mine Reclamation program, and Mine Safety and Training program.

    The division is committed to balance the need for mineral resource production with protection of the public, environment and Colorado's natural resources.

    The mission of DRMS is to protect the public, miners and the environment during current mining operations, restore abandoned mines, and to ensure that all mined land is reclaimed to beneficial use.


    This work unit exists to provide administrative support for DRMS Division Administrative staff in the Denver office including general clerical duties, email, mail, electronic file scanning, telephone and walk-in inquiries, as well as support for the Division Director, all Program Directors and the Mined Land Reclamation Board.

    This unit is backup and support for the first line administrative staff which includes initial communications contact for the Division with the staff, the public, operators and others which requires a large portion of time working at the office.

    Description of Job

    This posting is only open to residents of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application.

    This position exists to learn, support and provide back-up to essential administrative staff for the Division.

    Duties include monitoring public facing Division email accounts, contact for routing emails, preparing documents for mailing, scanning and indexing into electronic files, telephone answering and directing to the proper staff, directing occasional walk-in inquiries to proper personnel, and other lower-level administrative tasks in the Denver office.

    The position acts as backup assistant to other staff for the Division Director and Mined Land Reclamation Board on basic document processing and mailing needs.

    This position is also expected to be able to fill in when other administrative staff are out of the office on leave or other occasions providing basic Division communications and mail functions.

    It is expected that this position will be proficient in all duties to be promoted to an Administrative Assistant I within the certification period.

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

    One (1) year of professional experience in assisting in general office support, clerical

    administration, and / or customer service.

    OR

    A Bachelors degree in administration, business, or closely related field will meet the qualification.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Current or former State experience relevant to this position
    • The preferred candidate will have excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • The ability to multi-task
    • The ability to work well with a diverse population, DRMS staff, the general public and mine operators
    • Knowledge of document scanning

    Conditions of Employment:

    • Colorado residency is required at the time of application.

    • A current & valid Driver's license is required for operating a state vehicle and occasional travel is anticipated.
    • Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
    • Must be willing and able to occasionally exert up to 20 lbs. of force to move objects
