Minimum Qualifications

Promotion Qualifications:
One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Rehabilitation Counselor 1 and a bachelor's degree in a human service field* or NYS licensure as a Registered Nurse;
Open-Competitive Qualifications:
Either 1:
a bachelor's degree in a human service field
- AND three years post-bachelor's qualifying experience;Or 2: a master's degree in a human service field
- AND two years of post-bachelor's qualifying experience;Or 3: a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling AND one year of post-bachelor's qualifying experience.- For the purpose of this posting, human service field includes disciplines related to the following: addiction studies; child and family studies; communication disorders; community health; education; gerontology; health administration; human services; nursing; nutrition; occupational therapy; physical therapy; psychology; recreation therapy, including art, dance, drama, and music; rehabilitation counseling; social work; and sociology.
If you are appointed provisionally, you must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title, and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed.
If you do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, you may not be retained.Duties Description
As a Rehabilitation Counselor 2, you would provide a full range of rehabilitation/habilitation services to consumers, including psychosocial, competency training, and residential rehabilitation services, and such vocational services as evaluation, training, counseling, placement and support, and special employment programs.
You would be required to handle more complex issues (i.e., assessment and long-range planning) and exercise more independent judgment in performing those duties.
You may also be required to supervise subordinate staff.Additional Comments

This position is eligible for a downstate adjustment of $3,400.
