***: This position supports the work of the West Cook YMCA Association, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction and supervision of the Associate Director of Facilities, the Maintenance Technician provides front line support to the program activities and staff by preparing and maintaining the physical properties, equipment, and space of the Association. This position has the responsibility for recognizing and anticipating property needs as well as responding to staff and user reports of needs. The Maintenance Technician's primary goal is to ensure a clean, safe, and attractive property for facility and resident members, visitors, and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Reports to the Associate Director of facilities any items that pose a safety hazard or require repair.
  • Completes day-to-day general preventative items as assigned by the Associate Director of Facilities in a timely manner that could include general repairs, painting, changing of filters for air units and/or pools, general plumbing, changing of light bulbs, etc.
  • Responsible for daily hands-on basic maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of facility, setting up spaces for programs or events, and ensure the facility grounds are maintained clean
  • Ensures vehicles and other equipment are maintained, in safe and working conditions, and operated in accordance with the policies and procedures of the YMCA.
  • Respond to verbal and written maintenance requests submitted by supervisor or Y staff and assist other Y staff with maintenance or custodial projects as requested.
  • Follow risk management program to ensure safe practices are followed in handling chemicals and operation of equipment and to ensure the safe uses of facilities by members and staff.
  • Must be available on call for unexpected facility or equipment breakdowns or incidents at facility.
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct.
  • Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Facilities

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in facility maintenance or related work.
  • CPO "POOL" and boiler certifications required within 120 days of employment.
  • Has the ability and possess a current driver's license in good standing to drive with record that meets YMCA standards.
  • Proficient and comfortable with personal computers helpful.
  • Availability and ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Willing, able, and available to work evenings and weekends Broad understanding of general maintenance, repair techniques and janitorial practices.
  • Has general handson experience and knowledge in areas of plumbing, pool operation, electrical, vehicle maintenance, hand and power tools, and landscaping.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others and manage multiple priorities.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, climb ladders, walk, shovel snow, plow snow, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.
