    Description

    Manufacturing Emphasis:
    Provides assistance and support for both people and the processes in the Business Unit. Coordinates various machines, automation, mechanical, electrical and cost center technology to ensure maximum production.

    Coordinates process control and develops systems to provide accurate quality data, documented in such a way as to allow analysis using statistical process control and for establishing criteria to control input variables.


    Education and/or Experience:
    Minimum of 2 years work related experience in the Chemical Engineering field. BS degree in Chemical Engineering. Aluminum manufacturing process preferred but not required . Incumbent must be capable of quality ordered thinking, coupled with demonstrated training and leadership abilities.
    Essential Principle Duties (non-exempt) or Essential Accountabilities (exempt) Manufacturing Emphasis:

    Provides assistance and support for both people and the processes in the Business Unit. Coordinates various machines, automation, mechanical, electrical and cost center technology to ensure maximum production.

    Coordinates process control and develops systems to provide accurate quality data, documented in such a way as to allow analysis using statistical process control and for establishing criteria to control input variables.

    Coordinates process development to optimize Logan's potential of a dynamic, changing business competitiveness, setting the pace for technology to maintain leadership in industry quality and cost.

    Develops and implements process and behavioral training programs that support individual and Team improvement based on demonstrated performance. Provides assistance to staff and coordinates SOPs.

    Coordinates process technology with Associates, vendors and Logan Technical and Engineering staff to ensure that Logan maintains leadership in the critical areas of the "Plan".


    Chemical Emphasis:
    Provides leadership in analytical testing procedures/equipment to ensure the results supplied to Units are reliable and generated efficiently. Monitors testing results to safeguard potential issues with raw materials, coolants, treatments, coating, etc. Coordinates process trials of vendor products. Documents progress on all significant activities/events through normal channels. Stays abreast of state-of-the-art technical developments.

    Essential Principle Skills and Abilities Manufacturing Emphasis:


    Knowledge of industrial and environmental process development and control combined with Team-based organizational management techniques provides uniqueness to this position.

    Must monitor process outputs and work as a participative Team member. 40% of influence is based on expertise, while the remainder is based on interpersonal skill. Independent thinking is necessary in this position due to the level of responsibility to the Unit's process success.

    Finding solutions in this position is most difficult when variables relating to issues are unattainable without testing, which is often production process interference.

    Change adaptation is most difficult when related to Associate expectations and customer order specifics. Works with minimal direction other than that setting of priorities on issues requiring attention. Decisions involving risk, large quantities of metal or commitment of substantial resources require Process Engineering Leader approval. Capable of setting standard procedures for machine operation and making decisions that directly affect the quality of production.

    Chemical Emphasis:
    Knowledge of statistical and laboratory disciplines is unique to this position. Will assist lab operations and develop lab practices simultaneously. 40% of influence is based on expertise, while the remainder is based on interpersonal skill. Independent thinking is necessary in testing samples within the lab. Problem solving is related to initiating new testing practices. Change adaptation is relative to quality of samples and proper testing for necessary product specifications. Procedural control is limited to analytical testing of material based on known specifications. This position affects the organization's ability to produce quality aluminum.
    Essential Physical, Sensory and Mental Requirements
    Will sit 3, stand 3 and walk 2 hours daily. May stoop, climb, kneel or use stairs daily. Will lift no more than 50 lbs. Use computer & telephone daily. Time pressure is normal. Works on unlevel, unstable and slippery surfaces. Good vision, hearing & speaking abilities necessary. Must read, write, measure, draw conclusions, create methods, conduct research, develop plans, direct & evaluate others. Will work indoors, outdoors, at a desk or in a control room daily. Chemicals, vibration, extreme heat & cold, dust, dirt, fumes and noise are typical daily surroundings.
