  • Have availability to run youth camps in Chicago and the suburbs throughout the summer, and have time to plan and promote the camps in the spring.

Description:


  • Direct, supervise, and organize participants within activities and throughout the program in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
  • Ensure participants are always properly supervised.
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines, especially related to COVID19 procedures.
  • Develop and implement activities for participants within the program's guidelines.
  • Use our foundation curriculum to provide a progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for participants and staff.
  • Provide the daily care of each participant within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs.
  • Be alert to participants and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems; discuss with Youth Director when appropriate.
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to Youth Director.
  • Be a role model to participants and staff in your attitude and behavior.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Set a good example for participants and others regarding general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
  • Represent the program when interacting with parents or community members.
  • Provide parents appropriate feedback and information as needed for their participants to have a successful experience.
  • Follow safety and security protocols when participants are in public while presenting a positive image of the program.

Additional responsibilities:


  • Dedicate time during the spring to coordinating camp logistics with the Youth Director and key departments (e.g. Marketing, Operations, Corporate Partnerships, Community Relations).
  • Assign campers to groups, assess their ability to work on different skills, and offer regular feedback to continuously improve performance.
  • Ensure that all necessary forms are in place before a child enters any program, including uptodate registration packets, waivers, fees, etc.
  • Monitor the daily camp enrollment and maintain accurate attendance records for staff and campers.
  • Notify parents/ guardians of children about session dates, theme days, and schedule changes well in advance; remain accessible to parents throughout the summer.
  • Maintain and enforce all camp safety rules and policies; recognize, prevent, and correct safety hazards; monitor the health and safety of all campers and staff.
  • Ensure that all program equipment and supplies are ordered, available, and properly maintained during the summer
  • Act as a key player in problem solving staff/camper issues and parental concerns; be able to identify camper behavior issues and respond with corrective steps

Dates/Times:


March-May:
Most pre-camp work is done remotely, ~2-4 hours per week.

June-August:
Monday - Friday (8:30am - 4:00pm), facilitating day camps in assigned locations.

  • West suburbs (Elmhurst/Wheaton)
  • South suburbs (Hyde Park/Oak Lawn/Homewood)
Transportation required.

Qualifications:
(Minimum Education and Experience)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to interact with all age levels.
  • Experience working with K8th grade children required.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience (staff management experience a plus).
  • Camp experience is a bonus, though not required.
