    Starting Pay: $64,600-$80,750

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Logistics Manager is responsible for directing all activities of the Logistics Department. Actively managing all activities of the drivers, driver training, on-time deliveries, and ensuring proper and timely fleet maintenance. Provides leadership and development to the Logistics Supervisors and Router. Maximize adoption of technology resources, TMS, data analytics, and others available. Put driver safety and DOT compliance first and foremost. Make customer service a priority. Proactively develop and implement systems and processes to increase on-time performance, improve employee training, reduce cost, and ensure customer satisfaction. Invest in employee relationships in a supportive manner to foster employee retention and ensures a positive work culture consistent with our organization's values.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1. Identifies efficiency opportunities, develops new processes, and leads change initiatives with a focus on continually striving to streamline the overall operation and reduce operating costs.
    2. Manages the implementation and departmental use of systems to ensure efficient operations, such as Samsara, Wise, NetSuite, Waerlinx, etc.
    3. Develops and implements SOPs, work plans, and goals and ensure SOPs and work plans are consistently followed by all employees and updated as required.
    4. Monitors and ensures organizational compliance with DOT requirements.
    5. Develops and ensures compliance with training programs for drivers and ensures the training program is followed to enhance safety, customer satisfaction, and driver performance.
    6. Monitors driver performance to make recommendations for improvement and individually address any problems.
    7. Supervises a diverse workforce.
    8. Ensures that all work activities are performed with the highest safety standards and strives for continuous improvement.
    9. Interacts in a positive manner within a team environment to promote team building and increase employee retention.
    10. Works with the Logistics Supervisors to oversee the fleet maintenance providers and ensures proper and timely maintenance of the fleet.
    11. Develops and manages procedures for truck breakdowns to ensure timely customer service and control repair costs.
    12. Works with the Router and Logistics Supervisors to analyze routes and ensure necessary adjustments are made to enhance our service level to our customers.
    13. Ensures that all paperwork (reviews, write-ups, departmental bills, metrics, etc.) is accurate, and submitted timely manner, and all filing and record keeping is kept organized and current. (Driver DOT Files, vehicle files, etc.)
    14. Holds staff within the logistics department accountable for desired outcomes.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Manages one (1) or more direct reports by providing guidance and/or oversight to employees and/or contractors. Develops and maintains roles, responsibilities, and expectations. Practices performance management in support of employee development, and perform administrative duties associated with being a people manager. Responsibilities include interviewing, planning, assigning, directing work, and resolving problems. Responsibilities also include sponsoring and participating in and/or supporting project teams sponsored by other management team members.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four‐year college or university in Supply Chain Management, Business, or Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Minimum of three (3) years experience with managing people staff under 100
    • Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on knowledge of logistics and transportation-related systems, data collection, budgeting, DOT regulations, routing/scheduling software, and fleet maintenance management
    • Minimum of three (3) years experience with scheduling, routing, budgeting, and staff development preferred.

    Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

    • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and insurance
    • Commercial Driver's License (Class-A) is preferred

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required daily to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and remain in a standing or stationary position for a significant amount of the workday; and often access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee must regularly move about the office and around the facility, use hands, wrists, and fingers to grip, type, and write. The employee must occasionally lift 40 pounds. The employee will need to have the average ability to hear horns, warnings, and alerts associated with a warehouse. The employee must occasionally travel to other sites for business.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in an enclosed office environment, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, strong food-related smells, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the employee will be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels (e.g., horns, fans).

    TRAVEL REQUIRED: (select one)

    Travel is required for this position (up to 10% of the time and on a domestic basis within our 18-county service area).

    This role supports hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities, as necessary, and may require flexibility (e.g., times of disaster, community events, company events).
