ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
The Conservation Corps of Long Beach (CCLB) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3)
organization that has helped at-risk young adults develop themselves since 1987. To
date, more than 10,000 young people have participated in CCLB classes and service
projects, learning new skills while contributing to the quality of life for residents of the
greater Long Beach area.


MISSION
The primary mission of the Conservation Corps of Long Beach is to develop at-risk youth
to reach their full potential through work, service, conservation, and education.

Under the supervision of an experienced Supervisor, the Supervisor I is responsible for
assisting a Crew Supervisor with the supervision, leadership and development of
corpsmembers years if age in a variety of work or recycling projects and
educational activities.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervision:
Under the direction of a Project Coordinator, the Recycling Supervisor will supervise
all or part of the crew in its daily routine, instruct corpsmembers in the necessary skills
to complete work projects, monitor safety, and ensure efficient use of tools and
materials.

  • Maintain discipline, positive crew morale, build teamwork and cooperation among
corpsmembers to ensure that the rules and regulations of the CCLB are upheld


Work Project Implementation:
Supervise crew or portion of a crew in the completion of recycling related work
projects, such as collection of recycling material from account holders, special events,
and specified collection events. Collected material will consist of accepted beverage
containers, loose and baled cardboard, and electronic waste.

  • Work with the Project Coordinator on marketing CCLB's recycling program to
businesses, city entities, and organizations in order to open new recycling accounts to
increase material diversion.

  • Positively represent CCLB during special events and work with different organizations
on promoting CCLB's message of material diversion to members of the public.

  • Oversee the sorting and processing of recyclables collected from accounts within the
recycling warehouse.


Reporting Procedures:

  • Prepare oral and written reports of work projects, corpsmember evaluations, incident
reports and documentation of corpsmember attendance, participation and work
hours under the instruction of a supervisor.

  • Counsel, motivate and discipline individual corpsmembers as appropriate under the
supervision of a supervisor.

  • Participate in staff and corpsmember meetings.
  • Log weights of individual type of recycling material from accounts and prepare reports
of diversionary rate of each account. Log individual shipments of recycling material
being sent to market.

  • Log amounts of marketing materials being distributed during outreach projects and
special events.


Driving/ Vehicle Inspection:

  • When necessary the Recycling Supervisor will drive the crew to and from the work
site and to and from the education site.

  • Make appropriate vehicle inspections
  • Adhere to driver policy
  • When needed, the Recycling Supervisor will use a forklift to move recycling material
around the warehouse as needed. The Recycling Supervisor will also use a forklift to
load and unload recycling materials from vehicles as needed.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of use of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of methods of group instruction and motivation.
  • Ability to properly discipline corpsmembers, keep records, prepare reports and
communicate effectively with young adults under the supervision of a supervisor.

  • One year of experience in working with young adults from a diverse background OR
training through the CCLB as a Corpsmember Specialist, Driver or Crew Leader or
other leadership position.

  • One year experience in working within a recycling related field
  • Ability to operate a forklift

Other Duties and Requirements:
Must be able to perform physical exercises, heavy lifting and manual labor.

DMV print-out, Class C Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement (effective July
2017) or Class B Driver's license with Passenger Endorsement (or able to obtain
within 90 day of employment) and First Aid/CPR certification is required as a
condition of employment (or within 30 days of employment).

Salary and Benefits:
$19.68 per hour - $28.72 per hour (Salary Grade(s) 11,13 and 15) (reflects the entire
pay range) based on a level of experience and education that exceeds the minimum
requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale (salary range).
