PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Reporting to the Mail Center Supervisor, the Mail Center Clerk I processes incoming and outgoing mail and packages for faculty, staff, and students.

The Mail Center Clerk I provides information and assistance regarding postal rates and regulations and loads package lockers and performs deliveries.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Receive, sort, and distribute U.S. and campus mail.
  • Meter, sort, and bundle outgoing mail, receive, and send packages using computer shipping programs.
  • Operate appropriate mail equipment, machines, and tracking software.
  • Advise faculty, staff, and students on mail procedures, postal rates, and regulations.
  • Maintain a customer serviceoriented atmosphere.
  • Assist with updating package tracking databases, mailbox statuses, and perform inventory using computer equipment and software.
  • Prepare and deliver packages to departments and load the package lockers.
  • Assist with delivery of company invoice billing and monthly postage billing.
  • Maintain confidentiality of items being shipped to and from the Mail Center.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:


Individual must possess knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential function will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.


  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to lift and open mailbags and packages, and placement of mail in mail slots and forward mail with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in MS Office (specifically Word and Excel).
  • Must be able to effectively prioritize activities, organize, and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and work well with others as part of a collaborative team.
  • Must have the ability to interact well with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
  • Demonstrate excellent judgment and ability to work with confidential materials.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:


High school graduation or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability to perform the job.

Six months to one year of general office or customer service experience is preferred.


Knowledge or experience with postage meter machines, package tracking software, and driving golf cart type vehicles preferred, but not required.


LICENSES / CERTIFICATES:
Must have a valid U.S. driver's license and maintain a driving record acceptable to the Colleges' insurance carrier.

HOURS, CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:
This is a regular status, full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible, non-exempt level position.

Regular hours for this position are Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department.

Hourly rate range:
$ $20.00. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
