    Atomic Machines
    Atomic Machines Berkeley, United States

    Default job background
    Description
Atomic Machines is on Earth to radically advance humanity's command over matter.

Our mission is real-time bits-to-atoms manufacturing of anything at any scale, and to that end, we're developing an entirely new digital micro-device manufacturing platform that is going to redefine how things are made, and do so while simultaneously enabling the rapid creation at any scale of new classes of machines - think medical micro-robotics, true lab-on-chip microfluidics, tunable antennas, ultrafast high-power and high-frequency RF switching devices and many more.

The first device we are building with our platform has exceptional large-scale product/market fit and commercial traction, and we are pushing hard to share it with the world.

Our offices are in Berkeley and Santa Clara, California.

    About This Role:
We are looking for an EHS Manager to manage our EHS operations.

You will be responsible for maturing our EHS practices by improving our policies and rolling them out to the company.

The EHS Manager will be expected to lead by example and demonstrate a strong personal commitment to EHS and the safe operation of all Atomic Machines facilities.

You will ensure that we are compliant to all applicable standards and that our workplace is safe for our employees and visitors.

This role is based in our Berkeley office, with occasional travel to our Santa Clara office.

    What you will do:

    • Promote a strong safety culture by participating in ongoing interaction with employees through safety orientations, safety training, safety committee meetings, leading by example, and supporting safety recognition systems.
    • Ensure that the EHS policy is communicated and that all employees are properly trained on the content of the policy and the supporting procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with EHS procedures that include, but are not limited to: Safety Training, IIPP, Emergency Action/Response Plan, Fire Prevention, Machine Safety and Equipment Usage, LOTO, Hazardous Materials, PPE, Inspections, Audits and Records,
    • Plan, develop, and implement safety training.
    • Lead hazard analysis for the company. Ensure that such analyses are performed before starting any new work and as new processes are being developed.
    • Work collaboratively with engineering to develop first-principles-based hazard mitigation strategies in the context of the technology Atomic Machines is developing.
    • Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory EHS developments.
    • Contribute requirements and specifications to Atomic Machines engineering teams to achieve safety objectives.
    • Maintain an issue reporting system and ensure root cause analysis and resolution of any flagged risks or actual safety incidents.
    • Lead regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance to applicable standards.
    • Establish targets and monitoring frameworks to minimize EHS hazards and risks and report progress on these metrics to senior leadership.
    • Chair regular reviews of the EHS policy to ensure continuous improvement.
    • Be the point of contact for customer site visits. Lead these visits and any follow-up actions identified.
    • Interface with outside parties in the course of audit or incident response.
    • Provision adequate resources to ensure that managers and employees have what they need to effectively implement EHS policies and procedures.
    • Ensure accurate records are maintained in an audit-ready state.
    • Ensure that appropriate incident response plans and training are in place.

    What you'll need:

    • 7+ years experience managing EH&S programs.
    • Bachelor of Science EHS, or a related discipline. Masters preferred.
    • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). First Aid, CPR, AED certification.
    • Be trained in incident investigation by a reputable training body.
    • Experience as LSO for Class 4 laser safety practices and requirements.
    • Expertise in regulatory and compliance requirements related to our business.
    • Expertise in hazardous material handling, storage and disposal.
    • Experience working in a manufacturing environment including familiarity with common manufacturing processes.
    • Ability to shift between strategic and tactical activities with a hands-on approach.
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, technical EHS expertise, and a passion for continuous improvement to build a strong, proactive safety culture.
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and OSHA certification preferred.
    • Emergency management certification preferred.
    $135,000 - $200,000 a year

The compensation for this position includes equity and benefits.
