Hit the Books ("HTB") aims to bring additional educational resources to underserved communities through a sports-based development approach, with tutoring and mentorship at its core and mixed martial arts as the 'hook' to get kids engaged in the program.

HTB will serve as an after-school community center to facilitate career development and help make any and every goal achievable for its students.


How Hit The Books Achieves Our Mission

  • HTB provides afterschool educational programs, mentorship, and mixed martial arts classes to youth in Harlem aged 713 to help our students progress outside of the classroom intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. HTB exposes its students to educational and professional opportunities that may otherwise pass them by, fostering an environment of educational equality.
  • In addition to enhancing the educational resources available to children in our targeted communities, HTB will develop into a community within a community where children feel safe and view the facility as a second home.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain all policies, procedures, and structures as outlined in the DOH, OCFS, CACFP, and SACC license regulations, as well as human resource policies and procedures related to hiring and staff compliance.
  • Submission and maintenance of all staff records and forms to the DOH for approval prior to and while staff are working at Hit the Books
  • Oversee and maintain enrollment process for Hit the Books, ensuring all forms are filled out completely, accurately, and kept for recording purposes.
  • Oversee and manage all facility maintenance and operations related to the facility to ensure all components of the program are running efficiently.
  • Adheres to HTB onsite safety expectations, implements the safety plan at the site, and carries out the monthly drills to be tracked onsite in emergency drill logs and assessments.
  • Supervises and provides support for food operations and maintains accurate meal records for daily reporting, student and staff belongings, backpack/lunch, and storage systems. Reporting includes monthly food reimbursement submission to CACFP.
  • Oversees student weekly attendance and manage the Excel attendance tracker accurately and effectively to submit weekly to the Executive Director
  • Responsible for leading all parent communication regarding program enrollment, scheduling, and attendance, including communication due to lack of attendance and removal from Hit the Books programming for lack of attendance
  • Maintenance of weekly student schedule to help see where the program has capacity for new students in the Student Database
  • Maintenance and outreach of our enrollment waitlist to ensure there is a consistent demand and backlog of students interested in our program
  • Weekly checkins with the Executive Director and weekly team meetings with all fulltime staff
  • Lead annual orientations for new and return staff around DOH, OCFS and CACFP protocols and best practices to ensure we are constantly in compliance.

Reporting and Organizational Structure

  • This role will report directly to the Executive Director of Hit the Books
  • Role will have a staff of several part time employees, with one staff member present each day of operations
  • Opportunity to find volunteers to support operations in addition to budget for parttime staff

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of five years' experience in youth development, education, and/or afterschool program implementation
  • Direct service experience working with youth programs or afterschool setting
  • Experience parent engagement and parent communication
  • Advanced computer literacy with proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and all other Microsoft Office products as well as Dropbox and Google Suite

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • A proactive, goal oriented, self starter who takes the initiative to improve processes, systems and procedures
  • Willingness to explemplify ownership over the facility and its management.
  • Strong community engage skills with afterschool sitebased experience required.
  • Authentic and passionate champion for children; a capacity to inspire youth and families.
  • Expert organizational skills implementation and communication skills with other team members and the Executive Director are crucial to success in this role.
  • Management skills to drive results and to delegate responsibility to team members to ensure goals are achieved on schedule
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills.
  • Goal oriented and selfmotivated to achieve success for the organization
  • Solutions oriented with an organized mentality and desire to constantly evolve and better the program outcomes for youth

Pay:
$60, $65,000.00 per year
