Halifax Humane Society is looking for a passionate, people-person with demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, process-driven, collaborative workspace to fill the role of Volunteer Manager


Requirements:


Duties and Responsibilities:


Infrastructure:

  • Develop and maintain written descriptions of volunteer roles and responsibilities. Track and accurately report on volunteer data, including hours and number of volunteers.
  • Ensure volunteer adherence to policies and procedures, including attendance and tracking their volunteer service.
  • Foster an environment that embraces diversity, inclusion, development, and connection.
  • Gather feedback from staff and volunteers to develop positive, missionfocused solutions.

Relationship-building:

  • Serve as volunteers' first pointofcontact and respond to all inquiries quickly with compassion.
  • Assist volunteers with identifying available roles that best match their availability, knowledge, skills, abilities, and interests.
  • Foster collaboration and trusting relationships between volunteers, staff, and Volunteer Program staff.
  • Assist with outreach communication tools, including social media, to increase volunteer engagement.
Collaborate with staff to build interconnected webs of human resources to meet organizational needs.

Always represent HHS in a professional and courteous manner. Provide quality service to the public, volunteers, and employees recognizing their individual contributions to the success of the organization.


Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in shelter operations duties such as customer care and animal care duties as needed.


Qualifications and Requirements:


  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a professional, customer serviceoriented role, including office management, fundraising/development, HR/program management, etc.
  • Knowledge of HHS's mission and a passion to learn about volunteer management in the animal welfare sector.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and professionally with a variety of individuals representing the public, board members, volunteers, donors, and employees.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication organizational, time management and problemsolving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment, in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures. Ability to be flexible and detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit sound judgment and handle confidential matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player with a positive, cando mentality and proactive approach who enjoys working in a fastpaced environment.
  • Passion for the Halifax Humane Society mission, and for caring for all animals regardless of age, breed, temperament, or species, and supporting and educating members of the public, free of judgment or bias.

Salary:
From $41,600 per year
