SUMMARY:

BACKGROUND:

The Tier 2 MTSS team will proactively identify students who need additional support in school to obtain their full potential based on varying factors.

The team will utilize progress monitoring throughout the year to provide timely preventive support to students for whom tier 1 is not meeting their needs.

Drawing from the literature and experiences at other districts and our own district, this team will coordinate a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) effort.

The team will provide needed academic and social-emotional support to 9th and 12th-grade students, focusing on (1) team-driven shared leadership; (2) data-based problem solving and decision-making; (3) family, school, and community partnering; (4) a layered continuum of supports; (5) and evidence-based practices.

This work will be driven by the MTSS team and tightly integrated into existing departments and course teams. Existing Department Chairs will oversee aspects of this work relevant to their departments.
The Assistant Principal of DEI and MTSS Coordinator will lead this work.

Each week, they will convene a meeting of all interventionists (such as the interventionists in mathematics, science, humanities, and student services) to review data and ensure each student is getting the support they need to be successful.

Each interventionist will be a member of the key course teams and will work with their course team and department colleagues to provide additional instructional support to needed students, via pull-out, or push-in services, or more intensive interventions.

Each interventionist will also serve on the larger MTSS team with our Tier 1 support services such as instructional coaching, mentoring and professional development, and the district-wide information technology office in order to review system-wide data for trends to inform the work of our Tier 1 providers.
