Scientist I - protein precipitation, liquid/liquid, or solid phase extraction

Onsite in Abbott Park, IL

6+ month initial contract

Hourly Pay Rate:

The Quantitative, Translational and ADME Sciences Department in North Chicago, IL is seeking a scientist to conduct routine, medium to high volume in vivo biological sample extractions to prepare for quantitative Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry bioanalysis.


Key Responsibilities Include:


  • Independently process samples from various biomatrices for in vivo sample extraction to support bioanalysis.
  • Collaborate with department team members including Bioanalytical counterparts to ensure seamless and timely execution of in vivo small or large molecule quantitation.
  • Work closely with multiple teams across Discovery and QTAS to support ADME Sciences and biomarker preparation for bioanalysis.
  • Timely and accurately set up robotic liquid handling decks, track and execute proper extraction protocols, and bring anomalies to the attention of senior staff during daily workflow.

Qualifications:


  • B.S in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field and 1+ year of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Previous experience with liquid handling systems such as Hamilton, Beckman and/or Tecan is highly desired, but not required.
  • Experience with process development or optimization (may include automating).
  • Technical aptitude with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow protocols accurately and precisely, maintain excellent documentation of all work including electronic lab notebooks.
  • Highly motivated individual with a proven ability to work cross functionally. Ability to work well in a collaborative fastpaced team environment, committed to generating highquality results within tight deadlines and across different projects.

  • Knowledge of protein precipitation, liquid/liquid extraction, and solid phase extraction
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot Hamilton Robots, Tissue Homogenizers and other robotic platforms used for sample preparation
  • Ability to use LIMS systems and Electronic Notebook to fully document experimental methods and results
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and an ability to collaborate successfully across other groups within R&D
  • Confident enough to admit making mistakes and bring those and other experimental deviations to the attention of Sr staff
