Scientist I - protein precipitation, liquid/liquid, or solid phase extraction

Onsite in Abbott Park, IL

6+ month initial contract

The Quantitative, Translational and ADME Sciences Department in North Chicago, IL is seeking a scientist to conduct routine, medium to high volume in vivo biological sample extractions to prepare for quantitative Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry bioanalysis.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Independently process samples from various biomatrices for in vivo sample extraction to support bioanalysis.
Collaborate with department team members including Bioanalytical counterparts to ensure seamless and timely execution of in vivo small or large molecule quantitation.
Work closely with multiple teams across Discovery and QTAS to support ADME Sciences and biomarker preparation for bioanalysis.
Timely and accurately set up robotic liquid handling decks, track and execute proper extraction protocols, and bring anomalies to the attention of senior staff during daily workflow.

Qualifications:

B.S in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field and 1+ year of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
Previous experience with liquid handling systems such as Hamilton, Beckman and/or Tecan is highly desired, but not required.
Experience with process development or optimization (may include automating).
Technical aptitude with strong attention to detail.
Ability to follow protocols accurately and precisely, maintain excellent documentation of all work including electronic lab notebooks.
Highly motivated individual with a proven ability to work cross functionally. Ability to work well in a collaborative fastpaced team environment, committed to generating highquality results within tight deadlines and across different projects.

What are the top 3-5 skills, experience or education required for this position:

Knowledge of protein precipitation, liquid/liquid extraction, and solid phase extraction
Ability to operate and troubleshoot Hamilton Robots, Tissue Homogenizers and other robotic platforms used for sample preparation
Ability to use LIMS systems and Electronic Notebook to fully document experimental methods and results
Proven ability to work in a team environment and an ability to collaborate successfully across other groups within R&D
Confident enough to admit making mistakes and bring those and other experimental deviations to the attention of Sr staff
