About Us:

The Bronzeville Center for the Arts (BCA) is a nonprofit organization rooted in art and its history that is rooted in the African diaspora.

Located in Bronzeville - a historically African American neighborhood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - the BCA will invite audiences of all ages to engage with dynamic art exhibitions and enriching educational programing when the art museum at 2312 N Dr Martin Luther King Jr Dr opens in 2027.

BCA seeks to advance institutional equality, within an environment that connects intergenerational audiences, and provide an African American museum for people to experience intellectual and cultural exchange.

Gallery 507 is the BCA Planning Office as well as a small gallery and retail shop.


Reporting to the Managing Director, the Bookkeeper will play a key role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the Bronzeville Center for the Arts (BCA) financial records.

The Bookkeeper is responsible for recording Accounts Payable, Cash Receipts, Payroll, Investments, and monthly general ledger closing entries. The Bookkeeper will assist with the preparation of financial statements. This position will work closely with management to ensure the smooth operation of all financial systems and processes.


Responsibilities:


  • Manages daytoday financial transactions and bookkeeping tasks.
  • Utilizes QuickBooks to record transactions and generate reports.
  • Follow a set of procedures and chart of accounts to ensure the accuracy of data entries.
  • Maintains subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.
  • Maintains file system of supporting documentation for all transactions.
  • Works closely with third parties who provide other services.
  • Assists with grant reporting and financial documentation as needed.
  • Contributes to BCA team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Compiles data and gathers documentation for annual audit with an outside firm.
  • Advises management promptly on any needed actions or compliance matters.

Work Hours, Salary Range, and Benefits:

  • Full-time schedule with some flexibility for remote work

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Previous bookkeeping experience within the nonprofit sector

Background Check:

Employment in this position is contingent upon consent to and successful completion of a pre-employment background check, which may include a criminal background check, reference checks, verification of work history, conduct review, and verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, with results acceptable to BCA.

Pay:
$ $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
