    Therapist/Case Manager

    Alabama Clinical Schools has been a behavioral healthcare provider in the Birmingham area for over 20 years.

    Our treatment services range from intensive residential treatment for males ages 9-18 to therapeutic foster care for males and females of all ages.

    Our RISE and Specialized Therapeutic Foster Care programs for boys are the only programs of their kind in the State of Alabama.

    Therapist/Case Manager:
    Therapist/case manager is responsible for conducting therapeutic services for patients in foster care. They provide counseling sessions for families, individuals, as well as case management.

    Therapists/Case managers are responsible for interviewing and developing the psychosocial history, assessing the therapeutic needs of the individual and family, developing appropriate treatment objectives and treatment summaries.

    Therapists/ Case managers act as the residents' and families' primary contact during the patient's stay in foster care, as well as their advocate with the treatment team.

    The Therapist/Case manager is also the liaisons with outside agencies and individuals for the purpose of developing and coordinating discharge planning with the treatment team, patient and family.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling or other related human services field.

    One (1) year direct clinical experience specific to family, individual and group therapy with adolescents and/or adults. Knowledge and experience working with traumaMust have knowledge of human development over the life span. Knowledge and experience working in Therapeutic Foster care.

    Current license from the State of Alabama preferred and licensed eligible.


    • Good verbal and written communication skills in order to document assessments, treatment planning and interventions into a meaningful document. Must be able to communicate with members of the interdisciplinary treatment team, managed care representatives, adolescents, adults and patient families in a clear and concise manner.
    • Knowledge of individual, group and family therapy dynamics and techniques as related to cultural, social, economic, communication and role expectations within family systems.
    • Knowledge of clinical skills to assess treatment dynamics accurately and develop effective treatment strategies within the overall treatment plan.
    • Employees assigned to adolescents must have the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of adolescent needs, knowledge of growth and developmental stages and must possess an understanding of the range of treatment needed by this age group.
    Work is mentally demanding. Moderate walking, standing, and sitting. Must be able to safely engage in physical interventions.

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.

    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, and peripheral vision, color and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    The employee may occasionally be required to physically restrain clients, using authorized restraint procedures as a last resort for protection of client and staff.

    Mental Demands


    While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve non-routine and complex office administrative problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions; and interact with City managers, staff, customers, the public and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom may be dissatisfied or abusive individuals.

    Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Foster Care Director and Director of Clinical Services.
