Essential Function

The core responsibility of the Employment Specialist is to assure that Ignite youth are as prepared as possible to succeed in securing and maintaining employment.

The position cultivates innovative ways to move youth toward successful career paths while assisting youth with employment and career services including, but not limited to, resume writing, interview preparation, job retention skills and professional decorum.

Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to the mission and core values of Ignite and the goals identified for this area of service.

This position works under the Illinois Youth Investment Program (IYIP) and follows all necessary guidelines to achieve established benchmarks. IYIP was established to provide at-risk youth ages 16-24 with short-term career development and employment programming.

IYIP?s approach to employment accounts for each youth?s individual barriers as well as their physical, emotional, social, and mental health needs while assisting them in securing a path towards greater likelihood of success and self-sufficiency.


Duties
The following duties are the essential functions of this position.

Case Planning, Assessment, and Direct Services

  • Assists in managing the daily operations of Ignites Career Development Programs services.
  • Ensures that youth participants are linked to in-house services through coordination of initial intakes, introductory program orientation, and referrals as needed.
  • Performs vocation and career inventory assessments with youth in Ignites residential programs, youth enrolled in community program services, and Ignites Career Development Program.
  • Hold routine, regular office hours at all program sites for walk-in services, to include at least 1 day scheduled until 7:00p in residential programs to meet client schedule needs.
  • Assists clients with development of individual employment goals and monitors their progress.
  • Develops and maintains job readiness portfolios with clients.
  • Maintains client case notes, assessments, and goals using required databases.
  • Coordinates client career exploration activities in coordination with other program staff.
  • Ensures youth have proper clothing and resources for job interviews and will assist in seeking partnerships in the community for clothing access.
  • Assist youth in accessing community resources as needed in collaboration with case management staff.
  • As required, participates in outreach efforts with employment and educational partners, and service agencies.
  • Complete monthly data reports and submit to supervisor.
  • Accurately enter client data to support all grant requirements into required databases.

Community Supported Space

  • As assigned, provides general supervision and appropriate intervention in the community supported milieu spaces in residential and community programs.
  • Completes all required shift and activity documentation.
  • Manages any crisis and/or emergency that may occur on the units with clients.
  • May accompany youth on activities and presents proper activity documentation to include receipts.
  • Documents and maintains medication protocol.
  • Assists youth with maintaining cleanliness, completing daily chores, and cooking.

General

  • Works as a part of a team environment by providing support and assistance whenever needed.
  • Timely prepares and submits all required forms and statistical reports. Maintains documents regarding participants cooperation, daily activities and other records in compliance with agency and external policies, procedures and applicable licensing standards.
  • Follows agency policies and procedures for the obtainment of information and provision of services to clients.
  • Participates in program planning and evaluation.
  • Participates in and contributes to regularly scheduled supervisory and team meetings.
  • May be called upon to participate in agency interviews.
  • Provide on-going support and supervision for all volunteers and their tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
