The Worcester County Developmental Center (WCDC) is committed to empowering adults with developmental and physical disabilities to be productive, responsible, and participating members of the community by identifying, enhancing, and creating opportunities so all individuals can achieve their highest level of economic and social independence.

This is a non-exempt position that provides direct support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of a residence for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Residential Counselor provides continuity of services for individuals when the Residential Coordinator is not on duty.

The schedule for Awake Overnight Residential Counselor is 7 on 7 off; 1st night starts on Sunday 9pm - 9:
30am; Mon-Thurs 1030pm-930am; Friday 10pm-8am; Saturday 9pm-8am; Holiday's & Closures report 9pm.

$18.56 per hour_**

WCDC will be conducting walk in interviews
every Tuesday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., until fully staffed, and hosting a Job Fair on Tuesday, April 30th from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. at 8545 Newark Rd., Newark, MD 21841.

Requirements:


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Remains alert and awake;
  • Maintains formal and informal communications with immediate supervisor, keeping him/her aware of activities and concerns with the program; follows chain of command;
  • Responsible for keeping accurate records with accompanying receipts;
  • Completes data and all daily documentation on assigned shift in a timely manner;
  • Ensures that individuals served attend approved outings and activities, completes proper documentation before, during and after the outings;
  • Assists the residential department in preparation for licensure and accreditation;
  • Receives and maintains certification as a medication technician in order to administer the needed medication to the individuals; follows the medication administration guidelines;
  • Maintains the residential home, ensuring it is kept clean and tidy and transport individuals as necessary
  • Implement fire drills as instructed;
  • Ensures individuals safety and security at all times and assists individuals with activities of daily living as needed;
  • Follows the dietary needs of the individuals when preparing meals and snacks;
  • Interacts with consulting staff, family and the community in a positive manner, supports WCDC position during interactions with others;
  • Maintains regular and consistent adherence to assigned work schedule;
  • Completes training requirements and inservices; maintains certifications in CPR, First Aid, special needs training and other related trainings as required by DDA and WCDC;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 21 years old, with a valid driver's license, and approved to transport clients. License may not be Provisionals and have a driving record that reflects responsibility and maturity. Complete all DDA Core Trainings successfully.


Education/Experience:

A High School Diploma/GED, 1 year related human services experience preferred, CNA preferred


Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Must be able to stand and walk 90% of work time; sit and/or drive 10%.

Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull 60 pounds; must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and reach.

All of the requirements are necessary in order to properly supervise and assist individuals with disabilities. Should be able to climb stairs/ladder and have good balance. Vision is required in order to drive.
