  • BS Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years of progressive instrument engineering experience preferably in an Ethane Cracker or petroleum refining as a process technical service or design engineer
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • This position requires daily interface with many disciplines within the Ethane Cracker Unit, with special emphasis on the ability to successfully communicate technical issues to nonInstrument personnel to assist them in making sound and safe decisions.
  • Extended work hours/schedules sometimes required during shutdown / startup or project activities.
Ability to lead by example, logical problem-solving skills, works well in team environment, able to manage multiple/changing priorities.
Familiarity with INTOOLS.


Activités


Resolve on-going and new instrumentation / electrical issues by analyzing installation details, adequacy of design for operating conditions, propose solutions including changes to existing or replacement technologies.

Identify and eliminate "bad actor" instrument installations.

  • Develop systems for monitoring and ensuring accurate and reliable instrumentation (e.g. DVC conditions, wireless connectivity, systematic analysis of feedback from PM's and repairs, etc.).
  • Review and improve instrumentation / electrical PM quality and rationalize PM's as appropriate. Ensure PM's meet environmental and process safety compliance requirements.
  • Dedicated to troubleshooting instrumentation issues, improving reliability, completing RCFA's on failures, ensuring actions are being completed, selecting changes to technology if needed
  • Develop long term capital plan for instrumentation / electrical improvement considering reliability and obsolescence risks.
  • Support capital projects in the design, selection, configuration, maintenance and documentation for instrument systems.
  • Monitor and revise instrument repair procedures as needed.
  • Develop and issue Management of Change documentation required to satisfy OSHA PSM 29CFR1910.
  • Investigate equipment failures and issue change recommendations to eliminate further occurrences.
  • Develop and issue installed cost estimates for instrumentation improvement projects.
  • Review, research, and recommend instrumentation projects necessary to maintain instrumentation reliability on the process units.
Serve as Instrument Engineer for process hazard analysis (PHA) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) Meetings.

This position combines an understanding of I&E engineering principles, unit operations, and overall profitability to ensure that these systems function properly.


  • Fosters a customer service attitude to provide the Ethane Cracker Unit with leadership in the instrument field
  • Provide guidance to the Boost team in all matters of instrumentation importance.
  • Develop and/or update the existing instrumentation engineering standards and establish guidelines for preventative and predictive maintenance activities.


A risk of exposure to electrical arc blasts, electrical fires and electrical shock, and will require working in Ethane Cracker Unit, including hazardous locations.
