QUALIFICATIONS:******- A valid Arizona Teaching Certificate is preferred but not required.

***- Must possess or have ability to obtain within 45 days of hire either an Arizona Coaching Certificate
OR National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) approved Certificates in the following:***- Fundamentals of Coaching
:
  • Concussion in Sports
    :
  • First Aid, Health & Safety
    :
  • Additional sport specific certifications may be required. Please inquire with Human Resources for details**
  • Familiar with Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) organization and its bylaws and requirements.
***- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a National Federation of States High School Association Level 1 Certification.

***- Must possess a valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
OR submit to an Arizona/FBI Criminal History Check, including being fingerprinted.

JOB GOALS:***The High School Assistant Coach carries out the objectives of the sports program as directed by the Head Coach. The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach and instructs athletes with regard to individual and team fundamentals, strategy and physical training, while demonstrating behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self discipline, self confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. The Assistant Coach strives to further develop his/her knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:***The following tasks are essential for this position. This list is not inclusive of all responsibilities. Individuals may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.

******- Complies with all HIPAA and FERPA related confidentiality requirements.

***- Develops positive relations with students, parents, school staff and the public, including members of the media, boosters, officials, players, other coaches, school administration, and fans.

***- Serves as a positive role model for students, coaching staff, and the community.

***- Demonstrates knowledge of proven coaching theories, strategies, and techniques and works with student athletes of varying abilities, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds to effectively implement these attributes.

***- Instills commitment, discipline, sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork to all athletes and coaching staff.

***- Performs other related duties as assigned by the High School Head Coach or Athletic Director.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:***
Knowledge of:******- AIA rules, policies, and athletic department handbook.

***- Effective coaching theories, strategies, and techniques appropriate for high school athletes.

***- Federal and state laws, rules and regulations governing education and sports program implementation.

Skill and Ability to:******- Motivate student athletes to participate and sustain their interests in the athletic program while excelling in instructional curriculum.

***- Create beneficial relationships and communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, students, vendors, other coaches and community members.

******- Implement educational policies and procedures.

***- Supervise and evaluate coaching staff.

***- Analyze and problem solve.

SALARY:Salary for this position is via annual stipend and is set according to the Extra-Curricular Salary Schedule approved by the Governing Board.
