    Accounting Assistant

    Full Time

    Role:

    To support the financial management and operations of the credit union through maintenance of accounting records and reports. Performs accounting duties of moderate complexity in accordance with standard procedures and under moderate supervision.

    Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

    • Assists with reconciling bank accounts, posts to and balances general or subsidiary ledgers, processes payments and compiles segments of monthly closings, monthly and annual reports, etc.
    • Processes member transactions such as wires, share drafts, and ACH transactions.
    • Contacts other departments and/or outside agencies to resolve common problems.
    • Records disbursements, expenses and other payments.
    • Verifies accuracy, completeness and consistency of accounting information received.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Performance Measurements:

    1 To process and reconcile GL accounts in a timely and accurate manner.

    2 To prepare all reports within the prescribed time frame and with zero errors.

    3 To troubleshoot and resolve member and internal inquiries in a timely, friendly and accurate manner.

    4 To maintain a professional work environment and businesslike appearance.

    5 To maintain a dependable record of attendance and timeliness.

    6 To cross train within the department and assist co-workers as needed.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    Experience

    One year to three years of similar or related experience.

    Education

    (1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.

    Interpersonal Skills

    Work normally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate associates generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (members or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.

    Other Skills

    Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Financial Operating System Platform (KeyStone) are required. Must be able to operate a 10 calculator accurately. Ability to multi-task, attention to detail and problem solve are essential skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary.
