Bright Star Schools is a non-profit charter management organization that currently operates nine high-performing charter schools in the Los Angeles neighborhoods of West Adams, Koreatown, Westchester, and North Hills and Panorama City.


The Meal Server is responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of food to each student as well as maintaining clean and safe facilities in adherence to the laws, rules, and regulations related to the operations of site kitchen facilities.

Responsibilities:


  • Assist in preparing and serving food, transferring food, unpacking boxes and organizing supplies.
  • Maintain the school meal serving areas, including taking accurate temperature readings of the food and milk.
  • Count breakfasts, lunches, and supper after they are delivered and compare them to the delivery sheet and report any inconsistencies.
  • Ensure that the meals are of good quality and not spoilt. If there are any meals that are of bad quality, he/she must promptly report this to the vendor and to the Dean of Operations.
  • Prepare area for serving by cleaning area using cleaning methods as described in the Food Safety Handbook, and by settingup the lunch line.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen facilities and surroundings.
  • Ensure serving line contains the appropriate posters and notifications.
  • Serve breakfast, lunch and supper to all students according to serving schedules.
  • Ensure that students are taking all of the components of a reimbursable meal (Milk, fruit, etc.).
  • Monitor daily food waste.
  • Keep transportation records, menus, and temperature logs organized.
  • Direct any meal program complaints to the Dean of Operations.
  • Will be main contact for meal vendor if the Dean of Operations is absent.
  • Maintain proper sanitary and safety practices.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

  • Strong organizational skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to positively interact with children is essential
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations related to the operation of site kitchens
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Able to handle stressful situations in a positive manner
  • Must be flexible and teamoriented
  • Able to multitask in a fastpaced environment

Qualifications:


  • CPR Certification
  • Food Safety certificate or attend training upon onboarding required

Physical Requirements:


  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Occasionally required to kneel, climb and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds.
  • To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below.
  • Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.

Pay and Benefits:


Pay:
Starting at $18, based on experience


Status:
Full-Time, Non-exempt (M-F, 7:45am-4:15pm)
