Laboratory (PI:
Angela Fang) at the University of Washington is seeking a full-time research coordinator (Research Study Coordinator 1) to assist in a research study examining the effect of oxytocin on vicarious extinction learning in social anxiety disorder.
The position will begin June 2024.
The primary goal of the study is to examine whether oxytocin enhances vicarious extinction learning in individuals with social anxiety disorder and healthy volunteers.
The study involves collecting multimodal data involving functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), psychophysiological assessment, clinical, behavioral, and self-report measures, as well as administration of oxytocin or placebo.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The research study coordinator will be primarily responsible for participant recruitment, screening, and data collection.
Data collection duties will involve operating the MRI machine, implementing standardized operating protocols related to delivering electrical stimulation in task paradigms, assisting in drug administration, conducting safety and risk assessment procedures, collecting physiological data, and administering questionnaire batteries.
The research study coordinator will also assist with preparing and dispensing oxytocin or placebo nasal sprays under the direction of the PI, quality assurance procedures, data management, preparation of human subjects progress reports to the institutional review board, FDA, and study sponsors, and maintenance of lab protocols and equipment.
This is an ideal research opportunity for a candidate at any career stage interested in clinical psychology, neuroscience, or medicine.
The position offers training in clinical interviewing, clinical study design, and neurobiological methods, as well as opportunities for co-authorships on publications and presentations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience performing work in support of clinical, biomedical, or behavioral research studies involving human subject OR equivalent education/experience.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in working with clinical populations and possess strong quantitative, organizational, and communication skills.
