Job Duties


HWDMC is a 94-bed medical facility that provides acute medical diagnosis, skilled, intermediate and long-term care to individuals receiving services in facilities operated by the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, as well as individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities within the community.

We have been awarded the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) 5-Star Rating.

Registered Nurses (RN's) provide age-specific quality nursing care to all patients through the nursing process and standards of nursing practice.

RN's plan, organize, coordinate, implement and evaluate nursing care daily; as well as supervise, document and provide guidance in performance of staff.

These positions are hourly/wage and not eligible for benefits.

Hourly (wage) employees may not work more than 29 hours a week and are limited to working 1500 hours in a year.

Eligible for shift differential.


Minimum Qualifications
Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia is required

Knowledgeable of professional nursing principles and practices; medication indications, actions, reactions and interactions and infection control.

Ability to work at least hours per week.


Additional Considerations
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is preferred.


Experience in nursing at the professional level coupled with experience in medical/surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing, rehabilitative nursing and or nursing care of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Ability to work at least - 3 days per week. The schedules for these positions will be required to work evening shift and weekends. The ability to work 8, 10, or 12 hour shifts.


Special Instructions
DBHDS facilities are no longer required to ensure that all staff members are vaccinated against COVID-19. However, facilities encourage and educate staff on the benefits, and continue to offer COVID-19 vaccination programs to staff, residents/clients. Employees may be required to disclose immunization status for purposes of infection prevention and/or management of outbreaks.
