- The core responsibility of this position is to inspect industrial and metallic mineral mine sites for compliance with laws, regulations, and policies, or for concerns. Process mining permit applications and bond release applications. Be involved with public meetings, present to the Missouri Mining Commission bond releases, and other topics. Be responsible for learning and maintaining current filing practices. This is a full time job with a heavy workload.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge and implement all applicable state regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures pertaining to the Industrial and Metallic Minerals Mining Unit.
- Effectively communicate with mine operators, public, and others about mine permitting processes, assist with map making, learn and help operators navigate our electronic permitting process known as Land Reclamation Information System.
- Overnight travel is required to conduct inspections and training.
- Coordinate with other agencies such as Missouri Department of Conservation involving in-stream mine sites heritage reviews and variance requests, and US Army Corps of Engineers on similar topics.
- Complete and carry out other assignments made by program director and/or unit chief.
- 4-year B.S. in Soil Science, Plant Science, Forestry, Agriculture, or other environmental studies.
- Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Traverse rough terrain on foot.
- Operate a 4-wheel drive vehicle over rough terrain and on public roads. A valid Missouri driver's license is required.
- Learn and utilize complex technical laws, regulations, and regulatory procedures.
- Knowledge of soil science, establishing post mining land uses, and mining in general.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS and computer-based programs is beneficial.
