    Summary

    The Assistant Coach, Men's Swimming is responsible for assisting in the direction of all phases of a nationally competitive athletic program in accordance with Barry University, the Sunshine State Conference, and NCAA DII regulations. Responsible for supporting the Head Coach by providing individual instruction/ teaching of said sport. Also, coordinates community involvement, completing/submitting administrative compliance documents and other duties assigned by Head Coach, Sport Supervisor or Athletic Director.

    This is an 11-month position, August 1st thru June 15th.

    This is an In-person position.

    Essential Functions

    Organizes, supervises, and conducts teaching sessions:
    • Assists the head coach with instructing/ teaching student-athletes in the rules, regulations, and techniques of the sport.
    • Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.
    • Assists the head coach with supervising student-athletes during practices and competition.
    • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
    • Teaches assigned fundamentals and skills during practice and games.
    • Assesses player's skills and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
    • Models professional behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
    Establishes and maintains an organized recruiting system
    • Recruits academically qualified student-athletes who form a competitive squad and meet established academic goals and objectives of the department
    • Participates in community service activities.
    • Interacts with the Sr. Associate AD/ SWA, ICA Compliance Coordinator and Faculty Athletic Representative on all matters pertaining to eligibility.
    Performs administrative functions in support of the Intercollegiate Athletic program:
    • Cooperates with the athletic administration in the implementation of department policies.
    • Assists in the direction of the program within the scope of the Intercollegiate Athletics Program.
    • Maintains a representative level of performance in the conference that satisfies departmental goals and objectives.
    • Consults with the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance concerning institutional, conference and NCAA regulations that will directly affect the program.
    • Maintains adequate records. Assists in Management of his/her budget and assists in developing fund-raising efforts for his/her sport. Works closely with Sport Performance, Marketing, Development and Athletic Communications.
    Manages student data:

    Manages student data including admissions, financial aid, registration, and academic performance data. All such data are treated as confidential in accordance with federal, state and university regulations. The Assistant Coach updates and maintains information on Compliance Assistant program, Salesforce, Workday, and the ACS Athletics program.

    Qualifications/Requirements
    • Bachelor's Degree in any field required. Master's Degree in Sport Management preferred or Equivalent preferred.
    • 1-3 years of related work experience required
    • General Knowledge to identify, scrutinize, improve, and streamline work processes
    • Must be comfortable with executing paperwork for projects
    • Must have general knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook
    • Must be technically proficient in all Office Equipment
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Valid driver's license required
