Job Summary
Wolverine Pipe Line Company is a liquid petroleum transportation service company, headquartered in Portage, Michigan, and incorporated in 1952. We are a small operator with pipeline in Michigan, Indiana and Illinois.

Wolverine does not own the product we ship. We are strictly a transport vehicle for our customers, much like UPS or FedEx is for packages. The Federal Government regulates the tariffs Wolverine charges to transport products between origins and destinations.


Wolverine operates ~700 miles of active steel pipeline across three states in the Midwest, connecting Chicago refineries to terminals in Northwest Indiana all the way to numerous locations in Michigan.

We transport over 15 million gallons of refined products a day. This large amount of product that we transport provides over 30% of Michigan's refined products supply.


Summary of duties and responsibilities:


Remotely operate pumps, valves, and other equipment on a high pressure pipeline system transporting over 15 million gallons of gasoline each day using independent discretion, experience, and expertise.

Monitor/analyze data received from meters, tanks, pressure transmitters, interface detectors, valves and other devices to operate the pipeline system.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Ability to work in a stressful and fast paced environment
  • Ability to make quick decisions under duress, using independent discretion
  • Ability to implement and achieve safe operations with the utmost responsibility for the protection of the population and the environment. Be thoroughly familiar with the actions to be taken in event of a system malfunction or abnormal operating condition
  • Carry out the Scheduler's directives, while providing recommendations and suggestions as to any changes in the directives
  • Implement operational measures determined by the OCC Supervisor
  • Keep the OCC Supervisor advised of any significant problems
  • Work with the field personnel in resolving pending problems requiring action by the OCC Controllers
  • Work with customers to coordinate pipeline deliveries.
  • Track displacements and ensure each grade is delivered as scheduled
  • Maintain written/digital logs of data and events as required on daily green sheets and in MaCRoM software
  • Complete all required documentation in accordance with Control Room Management requirements
  • Make proper notifications to management of abnormal or emergency operations
  • Keep daily inventory and spreadsheets up to date throughout the shift
  • Keep pipeline automation slates accurate and up to date
  • Must be able to work 12hour rotating day and night shifts, maintaining a high level of attention at all times
  • Must be able to work overtime on short notice
  • Must be able to support the OCC Controller onduty by performing various administrative tasks
  • May occasionally be required to cover scheduling duties
  • Regular attendance

Physical Environment/working conditions:


  • Normal office environment
  • Rotating shift work 12 hour shifts during both night and day including some holidays
  • Working independently on nights and weekends without supervision
  • Occasional travel to field sites
  • Occasional climbing stairs, standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, and bending
  • Frequently reaching for and gripping objects.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs
  • Ability to frequently perceive colors

  • Frequent use of office equipment
  • Ability to satisfy the drug and alcohol requirements of the position

Education, prior work experience and specialized skills and knowledge:

  • Capable of using computer systems and software.
  • Working knowledge of company policies, procedures, and governmental regulations that affect Pipeline operations.
  • Basic knowledge of petroleum products, terminal equipment, and operations.
  • Previous experience in petroleum industry preferred
