Duties:


  • This announcement serves as public notice. Applications submitted be placed into a pool and will remain on file for selection as positions become available.

  • Plans and conducts, as project lead or member of a study team, specific data engineering, modeling, and analysis activities within SSA. Formulates sound approaches to solve operational data problems.
  • Utilizes data from various sources and information systems to provide advice and support on issues related to the OAI mission. Prepares and presents briefings regarding the progress and/or results of projects/studies.
  • Provides management with expert technical guidance and recommendations for achieving the agency's objectives.
  • Conducts observational analyses using software and/or programming languages such as Excel, SQL, and Enterprise Data Catalog platforms to explore/group data, test hypotheses, predict outcomes, and inform decisions.
  • Derives meaning from big data (i.e., datasets that may be large, disparate, unstructured, and/or complex), including structured, loosely structured, and unstructured data.
  • Conducts statistical analyses and develops predictive models using statistical techniques, machine learning, and AI, using tools such as R, Python or SAS, to support SSA operational processes and to optimize planning and resource allocation.
  • Analyzes study findings, develops recommendations, and prepares and presents confidential indepth reports and position papers to management officials regarding analyses of problems.
  • Develops, integrates, and maintains data and extract transform and load (ETL) procedures to ensure the integrity and efficiency of data interchanges.
  • Develops forensically sound, auditable, flexible, repeatable, and scalable ETL capabilities through data engineering best practices on a variety of structure, unstructured, and metadata.
  • Performs testing as necessary for workflows for routing and data transformation.

  • Prepares and delivers written reports and oral presentations, e.g., briefings, training sessions, and consultations. Regularly provides authoritative advisory discussions with agency leadership, supervisors, customers, and coworkers.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, briefings, and seminars related to data science, advanced data storage technologies, and statistical and analysis support system concepts.
  • Consolidates research finding and conclusions into completed products for review by OAI leadership.

  • To qualify for this GS13 position, the applicant must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at, or equivalent to the Federal
    GS12 level (or above), which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position
