I. Job Summary


Reporting to the Environmental Services Supervisor, the Environmental Services Aide (ESA) will perform daily cleaning as outlined by Supervisor and cleaning schedule.

The ESA will perform all assigned tasks in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Environmental Services department.

The ESA is responsible for following and enforcing infection control and sanitizing guidelines in order to provide a safe and sanitary environment.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The assigned duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
General- Provide outstanding customer service.

  • Perform cleaning of main vestibule entrance, waiting area and reception areas to include glass, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal and wipe down of tables and chairs.
  • Perform cleaning of exam rooms and nurse stations to include trash removal, sweep and wash floors, dust, wipe down exam table metal sides, sterilize exam table upholstery, restock consumable goods, wipe down counters and clean sinks.
  • Perform cleaning of restrooms to include clean/sanitize all fixtures, wash/polish mirrors, trash removal, sweep and wash floors, waxing, refill all paper products and soap.
  • Perform cleaning of offices and medical storage to include vacuuming, trash removal and dusting of horizontal surfaces and HVAC vents.
  • Perform cleaning of break rooms to include washing of tabletops and counter tops, trash removal, repositioning of tables and chairs, sweep and wash floors, wipe out microwave, weekly cleaning of refrigerators and restocking of consumable goods.
  • Perform cleaning of hallways and common areas to include vacuuming, sweep and wash floors, wipe down coffee stations and copy rooms, wipe clean and polish water stations.
  • Perform cleaning of conference rooms to include wiping down tables, repositioning of tables and chairs, dusting horizontal surfaces, vacuuming (underneath furniture as well), remove trash.
  • Will also perform weekly and biweekly cleaning routines according to schedule as well as specialty cleaning as requested.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and ensure maintenance records are up to date.

III. Knowledge
The ESA will have working knowledge in the housekeeping process and associated equipment. This position requires the ability to be flexible to respond to the needs of the Health Center. High values regarding customer service and positive attitude. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Reliability, punctuality and attendance. Read and effectively communicate in English required.


IV. Experience
A minimum of one year Environmental Services (ES) experience in a healthcare setting is desirable.


V. Judgment
The ESA will not be required to make judgment decisions without input from the Supervisor.


VI. Independent Action
ES staff at times will be required to demonstrate independent action during their shift.


VII. Accountability
The ES staff is accountable for completing all work assigned to them.


VIII. Interrelationships
Environmental Services staff will at times be working in areas occupied by staff and patients.

It is the expectation that the ES staff will always act in a professional manner in compliance with Lowell CHC Policy and Procedures.


IX. Physical Environment
Will work both inside and outside, alone or as member of a crew. May be exposed to noise, oil, grease, biohazardous waste and extreme temperatures.


X. Physical effort


While performing the duties of this job, the employee's physical effort may require the ability to stand, walk frequently, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladder, talk and hear.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25lbs, frequently lift and /or move up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 lbs.


XI. Character of Supervision
The ESA will receive regular instruction from the ES Supervisor


XII. Scope of Vision
The ES staff should understand the importance of their role. A clean facility is a large component of patient care.
