General Summary:
Ghafari Associates, LLC., is looking for a
SENIOR
ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
to join the team out of our Birmingham office. Candidates can choose to be remote, hybrid, or 100% in our Birmingham office. Note- there may be frequent trips on-site to current projects in the area. Ability to be on-site for day trips is a must.
The Engineer is responsible for the design and engineer of lighting and power systems and low voltage for new construction and/or renovation of industrial, commercial, educational, governmental and healthcare structures in conformance to client requirements and standards and applicable codes.
Provide the engineering to develop the construction documents for the installation, interconnection and control of electrical, architectural and mechanical components.
Essential Job Functions:
Possess / demonstrate the engineering knowledge and understanding to design and analyze electrical systems for the installation, interconnection, and control of electrical, architectural and mechanical components using applicable codes and standards including lighting & power distribution systems, low voltage systems (fire alarm systems, telecommunications/data networks, lighting control systems, power monitoring systems etc), sizing of equipment, etc.
Review and/or establish project scope, electrical budget, design approach, and applicable constraints with the Project Manager or client as appropriate.
Possess / demonstrate full understanding, application, and interpretation of the NEC and the other NFPA codes and standards.Able to adhere to project quality, budget, and schedule.
Prepare feasibility studies and schematic design packages of lighting, power systems, etc.
Possess / demonstrate the graphic ability to produce construction documents per company standards.
Review permit/construction documents for submittal to authorities having jurisdiction.
Communicate and work with all other disciplines to produce coordinated construction documents.
Edit or draft project specifications.
Develop and mentor less experienced staff.
Develop accurate project cost estimates.
Conduct field measuring and checking at the construction site.
Maintain organized project file containing project calculations, correspondence, appropriate reference materials, etc.
Review project submittals (shop drawings) for conformance with contract documents; specify action required for conformance.
Respond to RFIs
Perform related duties as assigned.
Employment Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
Professional Engineer's License is required
LEED accredited professional qualification preferred
Experience
10+ years of related experience in power distribution/lighting design
Experience with short-circuit analysis and coordination (e.g. ETAP or equal)
Additional Skills
Knowledge and application skills for design of facilities power and lighting systems; design team leadership.
Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam
Proficiency in AGI32, ETAP or equal and ProjectWise
Excellent written and verbal communication
Strong attention to detail
