    Description
    Job Title: Certified Pharmacy Technician at RUSH University Medical Center in Chicago, IL


    Summary:

    The Pharmacy Technician 1 supports pharmacists in various pharmacy tasks at the Medical Center, ensuring accurate preparation, filling, and labeling of medications for patients from different age groups like neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

    Adhering to standards of practice, the technician demonstrates sensitivity to the psychosocial needs of patients and embodies the Rush mission, vision, and values while following Rush policies and procedures.



    Responsibilities:
    • Actively participate in the Pharmacy Department Technician Career Ladder program.
    • Recognize and identify medication classifications, names, dosage forms, and routes of administration.
    • Utilize available print and online references effectively.
    • Understand pharmacy workflows for various tasks such as first doses, Pyxis refills, cart filling, batches, returns, and disposals.
    • Accurately interpret EPIC pharmacy labels and medical abbreviations.
    • Label medication dosage forms appropriately with necessary auxiliary labels.
    • Prepare and deliver patient-specific medications, restock Pyxis machines, troubleshoot equipment issues, and utilize technology like Carousels, DoseEdge, and RxVerify.
    • Engage in non-sterile compounding, packaging, preparation of oral syringes, and compliance with repackaging regulations.
    • Respond to phone inquiries, missing medication requests, utilize Epic for technical purposes, and maintain inventory and supply areas.
    • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations related to controlled substances, uphold cleanliness and safety standards in work areas, and actively participate in departmental committees and educational activities.
    • Interact professionally with healthcare professionals and demonstrate coaching/training abilities.


    Requirements:
    • High school diploma/GED.
    • State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician licensure.
    • Completion of an ACPE/ASHP accredited pharmacy technician training program (if licensed on or after January 1, 2024).
    • PTCB certification or eligibility to achieve it by second license renewal.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with a focus on customer service.
    • Accountable for own actions, development, and progress.
    • Willingness to work extended hours and travel up to 10%.


    Work Environment:
    • Sedentary role with occasional filing; ability to lift files, use standard office equipment, and work in a professional office setting.
