    POSITION

    The Vice President of Resource Development (VPRD) serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the organization. In partnership with the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this position is responsible for Leading a staff of eight, the VPRD will be responsible for all the development activities of United Way to strategically diversify revenue, including major gifts and Alexis de Tocqueville Society, grants, sponsorships, planned gifts via Legacy Society, direct mail, special events, corporate gifts, corporate engagement and volunteering. This includes the traditional annual campaign and other fundraising and engagement activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to grow United Way of the Bluegrass's impact and financial resources. The VPRD is responsible for the development and execution of strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations as well as the management of the professional marketing/communications staff and assets.

    The VPRD is responsible for leading a team of 5-7 professionals which consists of a Director of Corporate Engagement, Development Officers, Director of Marketing and a Marketing Coordinator.

    The VPRD will expand and diversify UWBG donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives and help recruit for and provide executive staff support to a dedicated fundraising advisory council of volunteers. In addition, the VPRD will work closely with the Board of Directors and support board members as they take on a more active fundraising role.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Support and partner with President & CEO and Board of Directors on all major fundraising initiatives.
    2. Collaborate with the President & CEO, Vice President of Finance and Administration, and Board Committees to develop and implement UWBG's financial strategy.
    3. Develop and monitor UWBG's revenue goals and budgets with key managers to meet and exceed organizational and community goals and needs.
    4. Build highly successful team of resource development officers, effectively managing and holding them accountable with annual measurable goals and objectives.
    5. Provide ongoing leadership and support to Resource Development team to identify future leaders and encourage professional growth.
    6. Ensure Resource Development team has leadership and staff skills, tools, resources, and training to be successful.
    7. Develop, monitor, and manage Resource Development departmental expense budgets within constraints of UWBG's financial plans.
    8. Manage the marketing team to create development materials, tools, and other necessary collateral supporting major gifts, grants, planned giving, campaigns, events, and other efforts.
    9. Review and participate in the development of all major proposals and grants submitted.
    10. Provide strong leadership and direction to maintain and grow a major gift portfolio and to build, transformational, leadership, planned giving, corporate, and other donor pipelines.
    11. Develop and implement a strong acknowledgement and stewardship program aimed at building deeper relationships with donors at every giving level.
    12. Uphold UWBG's brand and image through enthusiastic and positive interactions.
    13. Inspire donors to see UWBG as the nonprofit that harnesses the power of communities working together to deliver innovative and effective solutions that create change that lasts.
    14. Proactively support major gifts, donor engagement, and corporate engagement efforts to identify and cultivate key donors and prospects.
    15. Collaborate with the Collective Impact (CI) team to align donor interests with CI strategies, products and opportunities.
    16. Productively manages time by spending appropriate time out-of-office meeting with key individual donors and ensuring their team does as well.
    17. Professionally represent and share the mission of UWBG at city, business, government, and volunteer events and activities and, as needed, during nights and weekends.
    18. Develop and execute engagement plans (departmental and staff) and revenue forecasts in Andar and track actions and performance metrics (personal and team's) progress towards revenue goals.

    Requirements:

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • M.A. preferred: exceptional experience and previous demonstrated successful performance at a management level may be considered equivalent. CFRE and/or CAP ideal.
    • 7+ years of demonstrated success in leading large fundraising initiatives or comparable activities; preferably related to human services.
    • Demonstrated success and strong track record in cultivating, acquiring, stewarding, and growing donors at all levels of giving
    • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and follow through. Achievement oriented; shows initiative and enthusiasm while demonstrating uncompromising responsibility, courage and self-confidence, even in the face of difficulties Experience with strategic planning and management.
    • Ability to apply knowledge in working with staff, volunteers and to direct, lead, coach and assist team in achieving organizational goals and objectives.
    • Ability to foster relationships and execute work with diverse staff and support a diverse group of volunteers.
    • Strong, positive relationships in the community would be beneficial
    • Articulate and effective communicator
    • Self-motivated and ability to work autonomously but effective in internal and external collaborations.
    • Personal and professional interest in United Way's impact work and its success.
    • Expert knowledge of fundraising cycle and moves management.
    • Proficient with Google, Microsoft Suites and experience with fundraising databases a must.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The employee is regularly required to communicate clearly, in oral and written formats, with others in person, over the phone and via other devices. The employee must be able to transcribe, read extensively, prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer and other standard office machinery. The employee is required to travel regularly to locations outside of UWBG facilities to set up displays and presentations in both physical and electronic forms. The employee must have the ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects weighing up to 25lbs.

    REQUIRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATIONS

    Valid Kentucky Driver's license required and a reliable means of personal transportation

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc. This position will be primarily based out of the central UWBG office, hybrid work is possible with Manager approval.

    EXPECTED WORK HOURS

    Monday through Friday, 8:30AM-5:00PM. Must be willing to work a non-standard work schedule, including nights, weekends, and other unusual hours.

    Any candidate offered a position may be required to pass pre-employment screenings as mandated by UWBG. These screenings may include a national background check, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.
