    Applications are invited for a Post Baccalaureate Researcher in Bioinorganic Research at Reed College. This is a full-time, one-year position with the possibility of renewal based on performance and the availability of funding. The successful candidate will be closely mentored by Prof.

    Kelly Chacón, and will have the opportunity to contribute to and expand existing project(s) as well as mentor undergraduate students.

    The Chacón lab focuses on elucidating the mechanisms underlying the role of metals in biology using cutting-edge spectroscopic techniques.

    The Chacón lab has a well-equipped wet-lab space and office space with workstations. Successful candidates will have a chance to showcase their research at both local and national conferences.

    This is a full-time, non-exempt role with typical work hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one hour unpaid lunch

    The Salary range for this position is between $20-$23/hr. Pay offers are dependent on experience and are determined in conjunction with an internal pay equity assessment. This is a non-exempt position on grade 4.

    Who you are


    • You have hands-on experience with protein expression, purification, and characterization techniques.
    • You have familiarity with spectroscopic methods such as UV-Visible spectroscopy and EXAFS
    • You enjoy mentoring undergraduates from a variety of individual backgrounds
    • You are enthusiastic about learning and contributing to scientific advancements
    • You have strong organization, communication, and collaboration skills
    What you'll do


    • Perform protein expression, purification, and characterization
    • Conduct spectroscopic experiments and analyze data
    • Assist with biochemical and biophysical characterization of protein-ligand interactions
    • Contribute to the design and execution of experiments
    • Maintain detailed records of experiments and results
    • Maintain records of inventory, reagent ordering, and carry out limited administrative work (emails to collaborators or students; help arrange travel and conference plans; schedule instrument time)
    • Mentor undergraduate students in the lab; be a good team member
    • Delegate and maintain a clean and organized lab environment
    • Coordinate repair/service calls, etc.
    Qualifications


    • Must have completed a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry and molecular biology by May 14, 2024
    • Demonstrated experience with biochemical and spectroscopic research methods
