Summary:
This position supports the business needs of the Surgical Services department.

The Data Analyst is responsible for data collection (uploading, compiling/formatting, cleaning, and vetting of data), analysis, interpretation and visualization; best practice research; maintenance and quality control of multiple large databases.


In this capacity, work by the Data Analyst will be approached in a way which assures a timely, high quality product as measured by accuracy, detail orientation, technical sophistication and appropriate methodological approach.

Proactively investigates data abnormalities and likely questions that will arise.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Uploads, formats, cleans/vets, prepares, analyzes, interprets and summarizes data findings and generate analytical reports from multiple large databases with multiple variables, including visual representations in support of identified business needs.
  • Produces ACCURATE, valid and timely data analytics for business planning, contributes to the bench marking of best practices and obtains other market/competitive intelligence and healthcare information (e.g., disease incidence, utilization rates, volume and rate forecasting, market share trending, vetting online information of healthcare providers, etc.). Proactively investigates data abnormalities and likely questions that will arise to reduce data iterations and increase productivity.
  • Build key performance reports in final format within specified time frames, using Excel, ACCESS, Tableau, and (other) business intelligence tools.
  • Assists in the development and evaluation of metrics (measures of success) and executive scorecards. Uses agreedupon and innovative metrics for routine/quarterly progress monitoring.
  • Creates projection models and support/vet the development of assumptions and scenarios.
  • Develops both standard analyses, as well as analyses for ad hoc reports and specific project needs.
  • Proactively develops and maintains an accurate compendium of data and selected data sets in anticipation of the needs of the Department, Division and Organization.
  • Develops data collection instruments for case projects and future planning. Continually identifies opportunities for data analytics process improvement and automation. Implements those that are agreed upon with the Director and VP.

Qualifications:


Education:

Bachelors degree required, Business related field preferred


Required Work Experience:
2 years experience generating, analyzing, interpreting, reporting, and communicating data required.


Preferred Work Experience:
Previous experience analyzing healthcare market and service line data (DRG, ICD-9, CPT) preferred.


Skills and Competencies:

  • STRONG analytical skills (BOTH qualitative and quantitative)
  • Ability to identify key points and trends and develop succinct summaries of findings.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Access and Tableau.
  • An understanding of database design and function.
  • STRONG INTERPERSONAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS (BOTH WRITTEN AND ORAL).
  • Experience in forecasting highly preferred. Aptitude for learning and using LARGE internal and external databases and software including CHIA/MHDC database of acute care hospital data, Baystate Health's Decision Support software, Crimson Market Advantage, and others (US Census Bureau; Mass CHIPS, Claritas etc.).
  • STRONG CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTATION, DEMONSTRATED TEAM PLAYER.
  • STRONG SENSE OF CURIOSITY, DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO PROACTIVELY INVESTIGATE DATA INCONSISTENCIES AND ANOMALIES.

  • Proven ability to seamlessly balance multiple priorities.
  • An understanding of research methodology, principles and procedures.
  • UNDERSTANDS IMPORTANCE OF AND ASSURES DATA INTEGRITY IN WORK DELIVERABLES.
