Responsibilities:


HIM TECH III (Release of Information Clerk) is the (Hospital's) designated contact for requests for release of patient health information (including the patient's legal medical record and fetal monitor strips).

This position is responsible for accepting all requests for patient health information (such as patient access, third party requests, physicians or medical facilities for continuity of care, subpoenas, warrants, & mortuaries), and responding to each within the mandated timeframes.

Maintain knowledge of the Federal HIPAA regulations, state Consent and Release of Information Laws, and (Hospital's) Policies and Procedures. Assures all release of information activities are in compliance with each of these regulatory guidelines.

Additionally, completes all job duties following HIPAA's guideline for release of the minimum protected health information necessary to those who have the right and on a need to know basis.

Ensures accurate billing practices as defined by (Hospital's) Policies and Procedures, recording of payments, and submission of payments for deposit.

Processes and keeps accurate records of all release of information transactions, for ease of retrieval in response to requests for accounting of disclosures.

Assist in backing-up HIM Tech I & II and other assigned duties as needed.


Qualifications:
Education and Work Experience

  • Minimum one year HIM experience in acute care setting required.
  • Minimum six months direct release of information duties required.
  • Accurate alphabetic, numeric, and/or terminaldigit filing skills.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Knowledge of the State and Federal Regulatory requirements for medical staff documentation preferred.
  • Computer data entry with 10key preferred, with accurate typing speed of 35 wpm preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a medical terminology course preferred.
  • Training in state Consent Law and HIPAA Privacy/Security highly desired.
  • Attendance in health information management program with certificate of completion preferred

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $19.00 to $27.52.

The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
