General Description:

Provides secretarial assistance to the school assistant principals and serves as lead technician for the Student information system. Performs a variety of moderately complex work within established procedures and standard practices. Some specialized knowledge of the school's policies and procedures is required.

Work is performed under general supervision without specific instruction, requires frequent coordination with others at all organizational levels within and outside the school and may require handling of sensitive information or dealing tactfully with the public.

Considerable judgment is required.

  • Performs secretarial work for the assistant principals such as composing correspondence; designing and preparing forms, charts, calendars, handbooks or reports and maintaining appointment calendars.
  • Provides support for processing routine disciplinary infractions as outlined in student behavior handbook. Under the direction of the assistant principals, assigns students to after school and inschool suspensions for the least severe offenses. Prepares files for more severe offenses for review by Assistant Principals. Maintains disciplinary tracking systems and manual files in accordance with state and local guidelines. Prepares suspension and expulsion letters for the signature of the assistant principals and principal.
  • Serves as principal technician and main point of contact regarding the student information system. Attends training sessions to remain current regarding system usage and trains office personnel as required. Provides technical assistance and maintains the Student Information System policy and procedure manuals. Reports equipment problems to the school's technology coordinator and assists in the implementation of system changes. Generates a variety of reports from the system. Serves as a resource to assist in entering a variety of data into the system as required.
  • Serves as central information point to public, students and faculty regarding a variety of matters related to school operations and policies. Screens visitors, phone calls and mail. Responds to inquiries which do not require the administrator's attention. Obtains and provides information requested from within and outside the organization. Maintains good rapport with students, staff and parents.
