Job Description Summary


The Bartender is responsible for consistently delivering results that contribute to the mission and overall success of the hotel by accomplishing performance objectives covering the social venues of the hotel.

The bartender sets-up, services, and breaks-down the bar area ensuring a high level of quality, consistency and service, as well as acts as the host with how he/she interacts with the guests of the hotel.

Deliver on the promise of Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests and clients according to the Sonesta

G.U.E.S.T. standards.

  • Welcome guests and respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner. Refer any serious matters to management as necessary.
  • Prepare all bar items and associated supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Mix and serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks to patrons of bar and proactively sells the pool area of the hotel, evening socials and Banquet events.
  • Monitor area to ensure adequate supplies of beverage, napkins, condiments, etc. are available to serve all guests.
  • Follow preparation methods, times, quality and presentation standards. Follow standards regarding the monitoring of taste, appearance, texture, serving sizes, and garnishment methods.
  • Perform cashier duties as required. Manage a bank of $300$500.
  • Should have good knowledge of food and beverage menu and coordinate with Food & Beverage leader in daily/weekly drink specials and ongoing promotions.
  • Responsible for answering all telephone calls and directly involved in the order taking and order placing process while dealing with guest requests and orders, courteously, efficiently and promptly.
  • Ensure correct posting in POS system for communication to the service and kitchen.
  • Communicate with the kitchen regarding menu questions, the length of wait, recook orders, and product availability.
  • Assist in packaging, pickup and delivery of orders to guest rooms.
  • Ensure procedures are followed to ensure the security and proper storage of beverage products, inventory, and equipment and to minimize waste.
  • Maintain clean, neat, and wellorganized work and bar area; wipe down and sanitize bar area throughout the day, clean and clear tables sweep and mop floor, clean floor mats, take out trash receptacles at end of shift.
  • Assist the food service team transport all food and beverage items and associated supplies, equipment, and materials to and from designated areas.
  • Monitor area to ensure adequate supplies of food, beverage, plates, utensils, napkins, condiments, etc. are available to serve all guests; replenish food items and areas as necessary.
  • Assist the food service team in the setup and breakdown meeting rooms as required or requested during banquet & catering events; serve, maintain, and clean for all food and beverage service as part of all hotel meetings as needed.
  • Assist in the kitchen as required or requested; washing dishes, pots and pans. Receiving, break down and stocking food & beverage, and supply deliveries as needed.
  • Check the working condition of equipment and machinery in accordance with specifications. Report all unsafe or malfunctioning equipment, safety hazards, or any other maintenance and repair needs to supervisors.
  • Adhere to all health, sanitation, and cleanliness standards that meet state and local Health Board inspection, brand standards and hotel requirements.
  • Comply with all health, safety, sanitation, and cleanliness, and alcohol services standards that meet federal, state
and local laws, brand standards and hotel requirements.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:


  • Minimum of 2 + years previous bartender and food and beverage experience.
  • Previous background in hotel industry preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills; ability to communicate with guests and anticipate their needs.
  • Ability to promptly handle guest inquiries, complaints and all issues in a professional manner.
  • Ability to understand and to explain and perform upselling all items offered in the menu as well as offering alternatives or suggestions to guests.
  • Ability to smile and diffuse anger naturally.
  • Passion for service and exceeding expectations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must meet state minimum age requirement to serve alcohol.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English is required; other languages beneficial.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to multitask and function flexibly in a team/guest serviceoriented environment.
  • Ability to carry, lift or pull items weighing up to 75 pounds such as food product boxes, bus tubs, banquet tables, chairs, etc.
  • Ability to be on your feet for entire shift; frequently standing up, bending, climbing, kneeling and moving about the facility.
  • Will be required to regularly use commercial cleaning chemicals.
  • Will be required to obtain a ServSafe certification.
