The Heidelberg Center for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) at Heidelberg University is seeking to fill a full-time position by October 1, 2023 in Edgewater, CO.


The position is for an Academic Employee - Assistant Professor (f/m/d) in the Department of Cultural Economic History, under the direction of Professor Harald Fuess.

The salary will be based on the German public sector remuneration system (TV-L 13, 39.5 hours/week) and the initial contract will be for 2 years.


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct your own postdoctoral project and contribute to the department's and institute's research on transcultural studies
  • Teach two courses per semester (in English) in the M.A. Transcultural Studies program, as well as in the joint M.A. program with Kyoto University, with a focus on "Society, Economics, and Governance"
  • Provide support and guidance to students
  • Actively engage in academic collaboration with our partner universities in the HeKKSaGOn network (Kyoto, Tohoku, Osaka, and Seoul National University)

Qualifications:

  • An excellent doctoral degree (or equivalent) in history, political economy, international relations, or a related discipline in Asian area studies
  • A postdoctoral project that is innovative and relevant to the department, with a focus on international dimensions of modern history
  • Proficiency in English and Japanese
  • Knowledge of German and Korean is preferred
