The program has already had a measurable impact on local youth - over 97% of mentees in the program enrolled in higher education, were employed or enlisted in the military upon graduation.

As we look to expand our reach and broaden opportunity to more and more young people, we need an essential teammate playing a pivotal role in this process.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has the following position available
:Post-Secondary Success Program Advisor located in Houston, TX.


Position Summary:


The
Post-Secondary Success Program Advisor develops and manage the systems, structures, and processes necessary to ensure a strong foundation for the Post-Secondary Success Program.

Provide direct delivery of Post-Secondary Success Programs, leveraging mentoring and technology-based approaches to foster post-high school planning. Leverage mentor/mentee engagement and retention strategies in order to increase mentee post-secondary planning, persistence, and success.


Essential Functions, Responsibilities, and Activities:


  • Facilitate high impact relationships between pairs, including enrollment, monitoring participation, supporting relationships through regular communication and advice, and implementing strategies to improve relationships that need additional coaching through responsive and proactive pair support.
  • Manage all aspects of the Post-Secondary Success Program (including pair support, data compilation, match activity facilitation, etc.)
  • Collaborate with other BBBS and iMentor/mentor2.0 agencies to develop standards and best practices for Post-Secondary Success Program.
  • Recruit and transition Senior matches into Post-Secondary Success Program with support from home campus team.
  • Develop relationships with mentor2.0 schools, counseling, tutoring, and college success centers in order to provide support and resources to current and future pairs.
  • Create and execute messaging campaigns and communications focused on postsecondary success.
  • Engage with community programs and colleges. Garner information regarding workshops, trainings, and other relevant opportunities to aid match and mentee development.
  • Collaborate with program staff to provide postsecondary prep resources to high school aged students and matches.
  • Collaborate with program leaders to build processes for data tracking and assessment, for the purpose of establishing outcome plans and program expectations.
  • Track program participation and conduct postprogram evaluations.
  • Help Identify, collect, and maintain participant data to track postsecondary success, including graduate outcomes.
  • Attend and participate in all team, staff, and program meetings.
  • Attend Great Game of Business huddles as required and report program and support contact numbers.
  • Assist and attend agency special events as requested.
  • Maintain state licensure, when applicable.
  • Complete the Career Services Provider course provided by the National Career Development Association and obtain certification within 1 year of obtaining position.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a social or human science (such as social work, sociology, psychology, or education)
  • One year experience in a social service or teaching field preferred
  • Deep knowledge of local college landscape, including common school deadlines and financial aid opportunities.
  • Awareness of how to identify and support the needs of adult volunteer mentors who support mentees through their individualized plans.
  • Strong organization and project management skills with ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Prior database experience required.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel with at least 45 words per minute, error free
  • Must be willing and able to work with diverse populations.
  • Flexibility and availability to work early/evening weekday hours and occasional weekend, as well as travel in the assigned service area as needed.
  • Experience working with young people in groups settings preferred
  • Comfortable in public speaking role
  • Bilingual skills, particularly Spanish, a plus
