General Description:

The Mediator is responsible for collaborating with the Lead Mediator to offer mediation services to students and staff district-wide. Moreover, the Mediator plays a crucial role in aiding the Lead Mediator to connect with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff members, providing training in conflict mediation techniques.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
  • Specific coursework/training in conflict resolution and/or mediation
  • Bilingual proficiency
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and effective consensus-building

Responsibilities:
  • Help process mediation requests/referrals; schedule mediations, conduct sessions, monitor agreements, maintain records, and generate service reports
  • Develop and deliver presentations on mediation and conflict resolution
  • Assist in providing individual and group mediation services in collaboration with the Lead Mediator
  • Conduct research studies with the Lead Mediator to analyze conflicts and assess morale and attitudes
  • Act as a resource for crisis situations at Somerville Public Schools and help coordinate mediator responses
  • Support K12 mediation initiatives and oversee peer mediation programs
  • Coordinate with community agencies and other relevant entities in collaboration with the Lead Mediator
  • Perform other assigned duties

Terms of Employment:
  • 40 hours per week
  • 209 working days (July - June)
  • Follow school year schedules with additional days before & after the school year
  • Nonunion role

Reports to:
Lead Mediator, Director of Student Services, and High School Principal
