Duties:

The work is performed in a Child Development Center (CDC), U.S. Coast guard.

The purpose of the Child Development Services (CDS) Training and Curriculum (TAC) Specialist position is to provide and deliver a comprehensive training program to CDC employees and Child Development Services (CDS) Family Child Care (FCC) providers, assist with the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum/program that fosters the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development of children and youth, ages 6 weeks to 12 years, and promote school readiness and support ongoing school success.

Typical work assignments include:

  • Providing orientation and basic information to new employees to the CDS system.
  • Providing training to CDC employees and FCC providers for ageappropriate activities.
  • Developing a working relationship with local and online colleges, universities and professional organizations and advising employee/providers about continuing avenues of professional development.
  • Assisting CDC direct care staff by documenting observations and assessments, evaluating classroom environments, reviewing weekly activity plans, and providing additional training when needed.
  • Providing training to CDC staff and FCC providers so they can ensure classroom and activity area compliance with fire, safety, and sanitation rules and instructions.
  • Responsible for mandatory reporting of suspected incidences of child abuse or neglect.

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • This position requires a Child Care National Agency Check with Inquiries.
All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

This position requires the incumbent to undergo a CNACI background investigation.


This position has physical requirements that must be met to include considerable walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds.

The incumbent may be required to drive an automobile when visiting other program sites.

The incumbent must obtain and maintain valid CPR/First Aid certifications.


Qualifications:

You qualify at the GS-09 grade level if you possess the following qualifications:


BASIC REQUIREMENT:

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

In addition to the basic requirements above, applicants must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service;

Possess 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field of study.

Combination of education and experience.

Only graduate level education
in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience.

For example, an applicant with 6 months of appropriate experience equivalent to GS-7 (50 percent of the experience requirement for GS-9) and 27 semester hours of appropriate graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement for GS-9, in excess of that required for GS-7) would be qualified for a GS-9 position (assuming that there is no evidence that the attended college or university requires more than 18 semester hours as equivalent to a year of graduate study).


Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.


Some examples of specialized experience are:

  • Developing curricula covering physical, emotional, social and cognitive development.
  • Assisting in establishing plans and schedules for employee and provider training.
  • Assisting in documentation of required training of child care center personnel.
  • Developing lesson plans based on curriculum requirements.
  • Assisting in the overall management of a child care center including such duties as program development and selection and training of personnel.
