Description

Duties:
  • Manage a group of beneficiaries registered to multiple Patient Centered Medical Homes (PCMHs).
  • Educate MTF staff on the Supplemental Health Care Program (SHCP) primarily used to cover private sector care for active-duty uniformed service members.
  • Support BAMC Referral Management Office with verification of covered services.
  • Oversee all aspects of the Tricare Plus Program, including creating local policies, sending out letters, and conducting quality assurance checks for compliance with enrollment requirements.
  • Act as a benefits counselor, offering dedicated service to Military Health System (MHS) beneficiaries to help them understand and access TRICARE benefits and services.
  • Evaluate out-of-area referral and non-covered service requests, confirming available care options before seeking approval from MTF leadership.
  • Develop marketing strategies to educate beneficiaries and providers.

Requirements:
  • Successful completion of the TRICARE Fundamentals Course (TFC) within 30 days.
  • Mandatory Personnel Security Investigation.
  • Compliance with a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or an approved exemption.
  • Mandatory immunization screening, including Hepatitis B immunization for positions involving direct patient contact.
  • Potential requirement for moderate to heavy lifting up to 20 pounds.

Basic Requirement for Health System Specialist:
Specialized Experience: One year of experience authorizing referrals, advising beneficiaries on health care benefits, and using databases to verify eligibility and enrollment status within a healthcare program, typically at the GS-07 level or equivalent.

Education:
Completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a relevant field such as business or public administration with health care administration coursework.

Combination of Education and Experience: A mix of education and experience may qualify as long as the total requirements are met. To calculate eligibility percentages, divide months of experience by 12 and divide completed graduate semester hours beyond the first year by 18, summing the two percentages.
