Description

The
CNC Operator is the face of the CNC department and is responsible for maintaining consistent quality, accuracy, and organization of all CNC cuts completed across multiple CNC operators and machines.

The CNC Operator is also responsible for performing machine maintenance, as well as assisting with projects outside of the CNC department.

To fulfill these required responsibilities, they are expected to collaborate with multiple departments in accordance with company goals, standards, and schedules.


BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CNC Machines

  • Overseeing the performance of daily operation tasks that will be either carried out personally or clearly delegated to other trained CNC Operators.
  • Maintaining organization and cleanliness of the CNC workspace at Kent and Emerson shops.
  • Coordinating with machine technicians to perform routine maintenance as well as troubleshooting errors or accidents when the machine is down.

Organization/Workflow Management

  • Timely advance communication to the Shop Foreman regarding operator scheduling of cuts on multiple machines to allow for efficient planning of labor allocation.
  • Interfacing with the Drafting department regularly on projectbased work, receiving tasks, and giving appropriate feedback promptly.
  • Maintaining a consistent cutting queue within established deadlines and proactively.
  • Communicating with the appropriate parties if and why a change in deadline is expected.
  • Catching and reporting bad geometry submitted by the drafting department

Experience:

At least 2 years of CNC operating with an exceptional understanding of CNC machines and their process.

Experience in the fabrication or construction industry is desirable.


Skills and Knowledge:


  • Proficient in all CNC operations including vacuum pumps, dust collection, machine interfaces, part organization, and maintenance.
  • Communicates well with various departments.
  • Experience with CAD / CAM programs is desirable, RhinoCAM is preferred.
  • Forecasting and communicating potential issues before they arise.
  • Highly organized work ethic.

Physical:


Body Positions:
Sitting, standing, kneeling, crouching, and stooping.

Body Movements:
Turning head and torso, bending and flexing arms, wrists, and fingers, using hands to feel objects, reaching with hands and arms, and lifting or moving 60 lbs, (i.e., regularly lifting sheets of plywood, MDF, etc.)

Body senses:

Must be able to see and hear, have full power of speech as well as communicate on the phone with customers and associates.

Must be able to see to read correspondence and related material and reports and have a specific vision. This includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


Mental:


Language:

Must be fluent in English and able to read and prepare reports, generate computer reports, and communicate effectively with peers, customers, and outside associates.

PERFORMANCE GOALS AND METRICS
The CNC operator will be evaluated on the following performance measures:

  • The ability to set up and operate CNC operations.
  • Ability to provide insight into tool selection, facility setup, and process flow.
  • Ability to work with others to resolve issues and determine underlying issues to prevent future issues
  • Timely processing of all CNC cut files/projects
  • Communication with managers and staff to be concise and clear about objectives

WORKING CONDITIONS
The CNC Operator will primarily be working indoors in multiple shop locations.

Noise, dust, and other potential hazards are present in the work environments and proper PPE (provided by the company) is expected to be used at all applicable times.


POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a part-time, over-hire position.

Work days can range from Monday through Sunday where work hours can range from 1st shift to 2nd shift based on demand.

Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee should be available during the "core" work hours of the assigned shift and must work the contracted hours agreed upon by the Drafting Manager.

Extended hours may be required based on the business need.


BENEFITS
Eligible for Health Benefits after 12 Month ACA Measurement Period based on hours worked.


COMPENSATION
$28.00 per hour with overtime opportunities based on company timekeeping standards.
