Assures that systems are in place to ensure appropriate resources and competent staff.

  • Directs department operations on a continuous basis and advises management on operational and functional improvement opportunities. Ensures the budget monitoring processes are in place and that appropriate action plans are established to address variances outside of established parameters. Identifies and implements ways to reduce and control expenses, as well as enhance revenues in the hospital and assigned areas. Ensure staff and physician awareness of cost impact on organization.
  • Focuses staff on continuously building customer satisfaction for patients, physicians, colleagues, the community, and other departments served. Engages staff in continually raising the bar in service excellence
  • Acts as the representative of AHS administration when providing service recovery and addressing patient experience needs.

  • Communicates effectively as hospital/system advocate to members of the community, continually seeks was to promote organization to the public.
  • Assures that implementation of standards of professional practice occurs, reviewing and revising according to policy or as necessary to reflect changes in practice and to ensure safe, effective, and efficient patient care. Develop with our physician colleagues, a system wide quality review program. Ensures compliance with local, state, federal rules and regulations and OSHA and JCAHO standards. Consistently, with others, evaluates core processes for redesign opportunities to improve operations, reduce cost, reduce cycle time, enhance service and improve performance
  • Promotes and maintains harmonious and effective relationships with physicians. Develops collaborative models for structured communications and strategic, program and quality initiatives
  • Provides direction and leadership to nursing staff during crisis and emergency situations

- responds to the ICU to assume coverage of a critical care patient assignment

- responds to the code location and directs resources, ensuring all personnel, supplies and processes are available for patient and team member care and safety.

  • Exchanges code carts after emergency use according to hospital policy
  • Anticipates potential problem situations and intervenes to offset any adverse impact
  • Supports department supply needs and obtains needed resources from storeroom during offhours.
  • Recognizes emergent maintenance requirements on the off shift and weekends and communicates needs to facilities
  • Provides for the discharge planning needs of patients during the hours that Case Management is not present; provides cab vouchers as appropriate; consults with the on call social worker as needed
  • Fosters exceptional public relations for the organization; interacts with the media according to hospital policy and notifies administrator on call as appropriate
  • Schedules OR and minor cases after hours; initiates oncall team for emergency cases
  • Locates daily and weekend "on call" for entire Peri-Operative area; anesthesia list for OR and L+D
  • Notifies Risk Manager of incidents involving injury or having the potential for injury
  • Completes timely reports to the NJDOH at the direction of Risk Management
  • Notifies the Safety Officer of real or potential safety hazards
  • Maintains log for sleeping arrangements during inclement weather or Code Green emergencies.
  • Completes incident reports according to hospital policy
  • Death certificates; ensures physician compliance during the off shift and escalate incomplete documents to Director of Hospitalists
  • Demonstrates knowledge of automating dispensing cabinet system; assign temporary ID to staff, and emergency medication box locations
  • Cancelling and placing staff on call or standby; 2hour notice protocol. Policy on who gets cancelled first
  • Location of emergency phone and jack. List of all emergency phone numbers in phone power failure

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.
2. 5 years of experience in acute care nursing


  • Active NJ Nursing License
  • BLS, ACLS

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or related field.
2. 7 years of experience in acute care nursing

3. 2 years of experience in critical care nursing

  • BLS, ACLS
